14 m2 bedroom layouts

Before renovation, it is recommended to create a design project: it is much easier to change the color of the walls and rearrange the furniture in a computer program than in the room itself. Furnishing a bedroom of the correct shape is not difficult.

Rectangular rooms are much more common than square ones. Designers advise not to place furniture along long walls, so that a 14 sq. m bedroom does not look narrower than it actually is. Depending on the width of the room, the bed can be placed either along or across the room.

The most successful shape for a bedroom is considered to be square – it has enough space for furniture and free movement. Experts believe that the optimal location of the bed is diagonally from the door.

In a narrow room, placing a double bed across the room, the owner risks losing free passage. The solution to this problem is to place the bed by the window. It is advisable to place a built-in wardrobe around the doorway: it will save space and bring the elongated shape of the bedroom closer to the optimal one.

For 14 sq. meters, it is quite appropriate to zone it with light shelves, a table or color: this way it is easier to divide a long room into two small squares, which will allow you to separate the rest area from the work area.

Furniture arrangement

The bed is the central element of the bedroom, it is worth starting from it, creating a room plan. If in addition to it you need to place a dressing table or desk, a storage system and a sofa, you should choose transformable furniture. For example, a podium bed, which will help save space due to the huge linen box. You can store clothes and other personal items there.

Many owners choose a fold-out sofa instead of a bed: when folded, it turns the bedroom into a living room. This is especially relevant for studios, small Khrushchev-era buildings and one-room apartments.

The main task of storage systems in a small bedroom is to combine several functions. For example, a wardrobe with mirrored sliding doors will not only hide clothes, but also visually expand the space, and for a separate full-length mirror you will not need to look for a free wall. A corner wardrobe will take up a free corner and will hold more things than a straight one. A simple shelf above the headboard across the entire wall will serve as a library and provide additional coziness, creating a small niche.

With the birth of a child, it is necessary to allocate space for a crib in the parents’ bedroom. The best option for placing it is near the adult bed if the child is restless and often wakes up at night. But sometimes it is more convenient for parents to arrange a cozy nest for the baby in a niche or behind a light partition (screen, curtain, shelving) to muffle the noise, light and ensure a quiet rest for all family members.

How to arrange a room?

Bedroom 14 sq. m. cannot be called spacious, therefore, in order not to turn it into a cramped and not clutter up the space, it is worth listening to the advice of experienced designers.

  • Color scheme. Pastel colors in the decoration of walls and ceilings visually erase the boundaries of the room and make it lighter. Dark shades absorb light, so the design of the room depends on the goal that the owner of the bedroom sets for himself: if a dark room is planned to be used only for rest, then deep blue, green, gray and even black walls will help to ensure a sound sleep. In a light room with bright accessories, on the contrary, it is more pleasant to relax, work, and receive guests (if this is a bedroom-living room).
  • Finishing. To decorate the walls in a 14 sq. m. bedroom, you can use wallpaper, paint, wood panels – it all depends on the taste of the owner. Today, unusual headboards are in trend, which have become fashionable to decorate with original details: aged boards, bright wallpaper, slate paint. Wood-like floor coverings are still popular, valued for adding natural notes to the interior.
  • Textiles. Bedspreads and pillows are essential in any bedroom, they add coziness and home warmth. Textiles can be a bright spot in the decor, provided that the decoration is kept in neutral tones. The same applies to colored curtains and patterned carpets.
  • Decor. You should not overload the bedroom with decor, otherwise the room will look untidy. Large paintings, high-quality photo wallpapers and frescoes, and unusual houseplants look luxurious.
  • Lighting. To visually raise a low ceiling, professionals advise installing glossy stretch ceilings with built-in lamps. Intimate lighting can be provided by wall sconces or a night light on the bedside table.

A combination of different textures is the key to an original design in the bedroom, but it is important to maintain a balance, without overloading a small room with different items.

If the bedroom is on the north side, warm colors (cream, yellow, orange) should be used in the design, and cold colors should be used in a room with sufficient sunlight.

Design ideas

Some design techniques will allow you to expand the functionality of the bedroom. Inconspicuous smooth facades or light doors without handles fit perfectly into a small room and allow you to highlight the dressing room without harming the design.

A bedroom-living room is easy to arrange with zoning or a hanging bed: 14 sq. m. is enough to hide the bed from prying eyes. An unusual bed (for example, a loft bed) is also suitable for a teenager. You can arrange a work place or put a sofa downstairs.

By separating the recreation area with a wardrobe or shelving unit, you can set up an office. An insulated balcony or loggia, a niche or storage room, which can be combined with a room, thereby increasing the usable area, are also suitable for this purpose.

To visually raise the ceilings, designers advise placing a bed without legs and other low furniture in a 14 sq. m. bedroom, and decorating the walls with vertical stripes. An accent wall painted in a contrasting dark color will add depth to the room.

Photos in different styles

The most suitable style for a small room is minimalism. Its laconicism in decor, furniture and textiles will help to avoid a cluttered bedroom.

The Scandinavian approach will appeal to connoisseurs of both minimalism and home comfort. Natural textiles, wooden furniture, indoor plants will fit perfectly into the Scandi bedroom.

The room of 14 sq. m. in the Art Nouveau style is devoid of clear straight lines. Functionality here borders on decorativeness, creating an ideal balance. Light materials are used in the decoration.

A bedroom in the neoclassical style will suit sophisticated natures. Expensive furnishings, unobtrusive floral patterns and a neutral palette do not contradict modern trends, but rather emphasize them. This style differs from the classic one, in which it is difficult to fit a computer or TV, but it is easy to arrange a fireplace.

If the owner of the bedroom puts luxury and status first, the Baroque style is suitable for the bedroom. Headboards with carriage couplers, carved armchairs, and a massive chandelier will fit in perfectly here.

A 14 sq. m. loft-style bedroom has a masculine character: brickwork, concrete walls, and metal elements. But the industrial style is also appreciated for its large amount of light. In a small room, reflective surfaces and lighting will help to expand the space.

French Provence will be appreciated by lovers of comfort and home warmth. Floral patterns, antique furniture, and decor with a rustic flavor will look especially cozy in the attic.
