How to properly store a dishwashing sponge.

On the countertop or sink wing

There are many interesting organizers for sponges and rags on sale. Many of them include a dispenser for detergent: this is a great way to arrange the area around the sink neatly and ergonomically, because bottles with labels do not decorate the interior. Choose a spacious container for the sponge so that it has time to dry.

Con: the stand does not save space on the work surface.

In the sink

A convenient solution for fairly large bowls. The holders are hung directly on the sink or fixed to the side using suction cups. They are made of metal or plastic. The main advantage of such a device is the holes in the bottom where excess water drains.

Disadvantage: the container on the sink can get in the way when washing dishes or food.

On the mixer

A convenient option for those who do not want to overload the work surface. The holders are securely attached to the mixer, do not interfere and include several compartments. In addition to the sponge, you can dry a rag on them and store a bottle brush.

Con: moisture can get not only into the sink, but also into the joint between the sink and the countertop.

In the cabinet

To store cleaning products washing in a special pull-out drawer, you should think about the appropriate equipment of the kitchen cabinet in advance. Otherwise, use pull-out containers that can be easily installed on the inner wall of the cabinet.

Disadvantage: you will have to bend over for a sponge every time you need to wash dishes.

On the door

Another simple device is a hanging shelf that is attached to the door of the kitchen cabinet. You can make it yourself or buy it in a store. If you hang the shelf on the inside, unsightly little things will be hidden from view, and if you fix the holder on the outside, the sponges will dry much faster.

Disadvantage: high load on the door and constant exposure to moisture. If you are not sure about the quality of the fasteners and material, we recommend finding another storage method.

In the drop-down drawer

When ordering a new kitchen, you can provide a special place to store a sponge and other small items. From the outside, the drop-down tray looks like a regular drawer, but its contents are always at hand. The compartment should be equipped with holes for ventilation and drying the sponge.

Disadvantage: to get such a drawer, you need to make changes to the design of the cabinet or replace it.

On the wall

This solution will unload the countertop, will not damage the furniture and will not require special costs. The organizer can be placed on a railing or attached to the wall: suction cups are suitable for a ceramic apron. For storage, we recommend choosing mesh baskets: wet cleaning products dry much faster in them than in plastic holders.

Disadvantage: wall shelves attract a lot of attention and do not guarantee the cleanliness of the wall around them.
