Features of olive color
Olive kitchens in the interior not only look stylish, but also affect the mood of all the people in them. Initially, green, the shade of which is olive, is associated with spring, nature and youth. The olive tone itself is rather calming, relaxing – therefore it is often used in bedrooms. But the olive color is also applicable for the kitchen: it reduces appetite, is associated with cleanliness and environmental friendliness.
There are many shades of olive. Although the main association is considered to be unripe fruits, in fact, light green and even swamp tones are also considered olive color. It all depends on the proportion of shades that make up it: green, yellow and gray.
When using olive color in the interior, the greatest attention is paid to two things:
- Lighting. Green, especially in combination with yellow, is a rather complex base for backlighting. The main rule is no warm lamps, otherwise the room will seem more dirty yellow than olive. With too cold light, gray will come out and the kitchen will seem dirty.
- Combination of shades. Depending on the tones in which the kitchen is made, it will look different.
What colors does it go with?
The design of an olive-colored kitchen primarily depends on the chosen palette. For example, olive walls can seem warm if the interior includes beige and yellow tones. Or cold if the other elements are made in white or gray.
Beige and olive kitchen
A soft olive-colored kitchen harmoniously combines with a light sand shade. Most often, such a symbiosis can be found in olive kitchens in a classic style, when cabinets and facades are made green, and the walls in the kitchen and other details are left beige.
To implement the design of the kitchen in olive tones, consider the lighting and the side of the windows. The more daylight there is in the kitchen, the better. To neutralize yellow in both shades, use the white artificial light we discussed in the previous section.
White and olive interior
Such sets look extremely fresh and impressive.
Advice! To achieve a harmonious duet, use both components in equal proportions.
For example, a white and olive kitchen can be appropriately complemented with a white countertop and apron. Or make white walls and put a wooden countertop.

Combination of brown and olive colors
In an olive-brown kitchen, it is recommended to make the brightest possible lighting, otherwise the combination will look too dark. Reflective surfaces will help double the light streams: mirrors, glossy facades, stretch ceilings.
Olive color acts as the main one, brown – accent (that is, the latter should be less). Walls, cabinet facades can be green. Brown – countertops, shelves, dining table, flooring, accessories.
Advice! The combination will look best in kitchens with southern or southeastern windows.
Gray-olive kitchen
To achieve a light olive color for the kitchen, choose light gray tones. They can lighten and refresh even a dark olive color. Gainsboro, platinum, silver, zircon, monsoon will do.
To prevent the composition from looking too cold, add gold accessories: a mixer, lamps, dishes.
In a modern style, a kitchen with olive facades with black and white inserts, preferably in the form of a geometric print – stripes, checks, also looks non-standard.

Olive and black color
Are you faced with the task of designing a dark olive kitchen? Choose a low-contrast duet with black! Using olive and black in equal proportions, you will create a stylish and even slightly dramatic interior.
Important! Dark shades visually reduce the space and are suitable only for large rooms.
With bright tones
Since the complex olive color includes yellow, they are considered ideal companions. At the same time, they complement, harmonize and contrast with each other.
The most muted combination is obtained with mustard, honey tones. You can add beige to them or, on the contrary, go into a cold range with the help of the color of the sea wave.
A bright design is obtained by mixing with bright yellow (like lemon) or orange (carrot, orange, brick). But it is recommended to use them only as small accents, which, if necessary, can be simply replaced with more subdued ones.
Renovation and decoration
The olive kitchen set itself is an accent and suggests a neutral decorative finish of the surfaces.
White, beige, gray and their shades are considered suitable for walls. In large kitchens, it is permissible to use dark gray wallpaper (graphite, wet asphalt) and even black paint.
For the floor, first of all, choose easy-to-care-for materials (laminate, linoleum, quartz vinyl, tiles). The first three can be with imitation of natural wood of medium saturation. Tiles and PVC tiles are preferably plain or with a concrete texture (if a combination with gray is chosen).
The ceiling is usually made white. In small kitchens, a glossy stretch ceiling will look best.
The last question is the apron. The main options for an olive kitchen in the interior:
- White. Matte or glossy skinali, classic boar, exclusive white marble – any will look appropriate.
- Black. It is implemented using glass, suitable tiles, MDF panels with chalkboard patterns.
- Brown. For example, in the same tone as a wooden countertop. In stores you can find aprons and countertops of the same color.

What color of furniture and appliances will suit?
Olive does not set clear parameters for choosing appliances: everything depends on your personal preferences and chosen style.
In a corner kitchen in the Provence or classic style, beige stoves and ovens in a retro design and dome hoods are appropriate.
High-tech prefers minimalist black or chrome options, while in Scandi, completely white appliances are acceptable.

Which countertop should you choose?
Recommendations for choosing table in the work area are the same as for the apron. Most often, white and black monochromatic surfaces with imitation stone are used. In country and other styles that require home comfort and warmth, a light wooden texture will be appropriate.
The gray color will add severity, suitable for both classic and minimalist modern solutions.
What curtains are suitable?
Curtains and other textiles (tablecloth, towels) are relatively easy to replace, so here you can afford to experiment and try something bright. Sunny yellow or crimson red perfectly tone up, lift the mood.
Don’t want rich accents? Light colors look great against the olive background: white, beige, gray. To make sure the curtains don’t stand out, try to match the fabric to the walls.
What decor to choose?
The best decorations for kitchens in any style are functional. Beautiful dishes on open shelves, for example, will help to create the right atmosphere: cute porcelain teapots with flowers for French chic, neat wicker baskets or wooden figured boards – under Scandi.

Lamps in an olive-colored room not only perform the main function, but also decorate the space: just instead of standard spotlights, you should choose original pendants and complement them with wall sconces.
What style to decorate the kitchen?
Real examples of using olive color show that the choice of style is absolutely unlimited, just furniture and accessories in different designs will be different.
For example, Provence is distinguished by a combination with beige, carved facades, textiles with a floral pattern and a love of wood.
Modern olive color interior prefers glossy facades without handles, white or black countertops, aprons, trim.
Don’t be afraid of green in the interior, especially in the kitchen! With its help, you will create a unique and cozy interior that promotes rest and relaxation.
