Arrangement Rules

Ideally, before buying furniture, make a competent plan on paper or in a special program on your computer. Here are a few points that will tell you how to properly arrange furniture in the bedroom.

  • Leave at least 50 cm between furniture and walls for comfortable movement around the bedroom.
  • Put 90-110 cm in front of chests of drawers with drawers.
  • Choose bedside tables that are flush with the height of the bed with the mattress. Move them no more than 40 cm from the sleeping area.
  • Reduce the number of sharp corners if possible, so as not to injure yourself in the dark.
  • Use a minimum of furniture, this ensures free air circulation.
  • Place a mirror so that you do not reflect in it while you sleep.

Furniture arrangement options

The arrangement of furniture in the bedroom depends on the dimensions of the room, items. And the set of furniture is determined by the intended functionality of the bedroom. If you plan to only rest here, a bed and a couple of nightstands are enough. Add a wardrobe and chest of drawers for storing things, a table for work and makeup, an armchair and a shelving unit for reading.

Bed

The arrangement of furniture in a large and small bedroom begins with the sleeping area. Most often, this role is given to a bed, but sometimes it is advisable to replace it with a fold-out sofa.

Basic rules for the correct placement of a bed:

  • Place the bed with the headboard against the wall, make the headboard high. This is due not only to the rational use of space, but also to psychological peace.
  • Leave at least 0.7 m around the edges of the bed in the bedroom for ease of access. In small apartments, it is possible to push it against the wall with one side. But this option is not suitable for older people, because it will be difficult for them to get up and go to bed.
  • Choose a sleeping place so that you can see everyone entering the bedroom.
  • Install the bed diagonally if the room layout is initially incorrect, or you want to make it so.
  • Move the single bed for the girl / guy sideways to the wall, this will make sleeping more comfortable, further planning will not cause problems.
  • Do not place the bed with the headboard to the window, opposite the door. This will affect the comfort during sleep. In the first case, you will be bothered by noise and cold air, in the second case, by light from neighboring rooms.

Wardrobe

If you have a separate dressing room, then it is not at all necessary to organize a storage area in the bedroom. However, most often, a wardrobe is an integral part of the interior.

There are 3 options for storing things in the bedroom:

  1. Wardrobe. Most often, they use a built-in design with shelves, hangers, drawers.
  2. Pencil case. It can be a free-standing column or a set in which a bed is installed.
  3. Wardrobe. A large bedroom is zoned into a sleeping area and a full-fledged room for clothes and accessories.

Basic installation principles:

  • Any cabinets are placed close to the wall in order to save space.
  • A wall with a window is the most inconvenient for storage, it is better to use the space opposite or to the side of the opening.
  • In narrow rectangular bedrooms, a cabinet is placed along a short wall, otherwise the room will seem even longer.
  • Two modules on the sides of the bed + one above it are suitable for small rooms, because in terms of capacity they are not inferior to a coupe.

Chest of drawers

This piece of furniture cannot be called mandatory, but designers love it for its capacity and functionality. In some cases, a low console with drawers can replace a full-fledged wardrobe or serve as its wonderful addition, especially for families with children. Models with a changing table make it easier to change the baby’s clothes, and all the children’s things can be conveniently placed in the drawers.

The area around the chest of drawers is often used for decorative purposes, placing paintings, flowers, vases, and other decorations on the tabletop.

There are 4 chest of drawers layout schemes:

  • To the side of the bed. One of the most popular placement options, often used in narrow bedrooms so as not to clutter the passage.
  • Opposite the bed. You can put a TV on it or hang a picture.
  • At the foot of the bed. An unusual but convenient idea – however, the model should be low. Then the bedspread and unnecessary pillows are put away on the tabletop before going to bed.
  • Instead of a bedside table. If you replace one or both bedside tables with chests of drawers, the functionality of the bedroom will only benefit. It looks especially good when the bed is located along the long wall.

Dressing table

The rules for arranging furniture in the bedroom apply to the makeup table. To have good lighting, place it near a sunny window. In this case, if you are right-handed, the window should be on the left, for left-handers – vice versa.

The size and shape of the dressing table is determined by the dimensions of the bedroom, the wishes of the hostess, but one thing remains unchanged – a mirror. Take care of its additional lighting so that nothing interferes with your beauty routine in the evening.

An unconventional way to place the table is instead of a bedside table. In this case, it performs two functions at once, and you can save money.

Other furniture

Additional furniture for the bedroom is purchased in accordance with the preferences of the residents:

  • Armchair. Installed near the dressing table or bookcase. Moms will love it as an extra seat while feeding or lulling the baby.
  • Pouf. Place it in the makeup area, next to the chair as a footrest or at the foot of the bed. In the latter case, it can be a long bench, on top of which or inside which you will put things away before going to bed.
  • Desk. If you often have to work from home, equip an area by the window.
  • Bookshelf. Book lovers will love the reading nook with its comfortable chair.
