Techniques for increasing space in a tiny bedroom
The most reliable way to increase square meters is redevelopment. The space will become physically larger, you will be able to place a desk or a dressing table in addition to the bed. You can combine a small bedroom with a balcony or demolish the wall between it and the next room, moving the partition further away.
This solution requires financial and physical investment, the renovation will be major: but instead of 6 sq. m. you will be able to have 8-10.
If there is no balcony in the bedroom, and you are not going to demolish the walls, try visual ways to increase the area of 6 sq. m.:
- Mirrors. The simplest, most frequently used technique: the room, reflected in the mirrors, looks 1.5-2 times more spacious. You can place them above the bed or on its sides, so that when you enter the room you immediately see the reflection.
- White color. Not just light, but snow-white. Use in decoration, furniture: the greater the percentage of surfaces in this shade, the freer the interior of a small bedroom will look.
- 3D effect. Wallpaper with panoramic views and 3D patterns only seem at first glance to be a frivolous solution, in fact, they create an excellent illusion. Thanks to it, people entering the bedroom will not be able to estimate the real size.

Which layout is better?
The design of a small bedroom of 6 sq m begins with the arrangement of furniture. In a small area, you can’t really go wild; with a standard layout, there will be no room for anything in the room except for a bed with bedside tables. But if you use your imagination, you can find other solutions.
By replacing the bedside tables with columns, you will get an effective solution to the storage problem. If there is not enough space in the cabinets, hang wall cabinets between them. The only downside to such functional furniture is that there is nowhere to put a book or phone before going to bed.
But the problem is easy to solve: make a small shelf on the wall above the headboard.
Do you still need bedside tables? Then play with the sizes: you can take a bed not 2 * 2 (it takes up as much as 4 squares!), but replace it with a more compact model – 1.4-1.6 meters wide (2.8-3.2 m2, respectively). For short people, models 180-190 cm long are suitable, instead of 200-210. There are also smaller bedside tables: not 50 * 40 cm, but 30 * 30. With this approach, there will be room for a narrow closet or a couple of chests of drawers.
And the last hint: the bed does not have to be placed in the center! Move it to the corner: you will need only 1 bedside table, freeing up space for a dressing table or a wardrobe.
Important! You should not think over zones, use physical zoning techniques: most likely, only one will fit in 6 sq. m. – the bedroom. If you still need to separate some part, use color or light.

In which color to decorate?
The color scheme in the design of a small bedroom of 6 m2 plays an important role. We have already mentioned that it is better to make white the main color: it literally erases the boundaries, changes the perception of space. But if white rooms evoke unpleasant associations, use analogs:
- Beige. A warm light color will give coziness to a bedroom with northern windows. It is perfect for a classic, modern style. The use of different shades adds depth: light for the main decoration, dark, saturated for accents.
- Gray. Southern or southeastern bedrooms, flooded with sun, want to lower the temperature a little: for this, use a cold, calm gray. Suitable for walls, floors and ceilings (although the latter is better to make white). It goes well with black, which is usually used to highlight small accents and accessories.

Don’t forget about the color palette. When choosing a pastel color scheme, focus on the direction of the windows: warm (light yellow, peach) for the north side, cold (blue, light green) for the south. Pastel is diluted with white, gray or beige to add lightness to the design.
What furniture to choose?
It’s no secret that you can’t fit a lot of furniture in 6 square meters. Therefore, those items that fit should be as functional as possible: for example, choose a bed with drawers under the mattress instead of an ordinary one – they are used to store bedding and clothes. And also, a pull-out drawer can replace a nightstand at night.
A linen drawer is also most often built into a bed: for this purpose, it is equipped with a lifting mechanism. Sometimes the linen box is placed at the head of the bed – a convenient, compact way.
Basic requirements for furniture in a small bedroom:
- Color. Dark shades are prohibited – the products look bulky. Light wood or classic white look lighter.
- Compactness. Products with reduced width or depth are available for sale – in conditions of limited space, it is better to use them.
- Visually enlarge the space. To do this, choose models with glossy or mirrored fronts.
What to consider in decor and lighting?
The presence of decorative elements in the decor is a controversial issue. On the one hand, there is not enough space, and on the other hand, without them, the bedroom will look empty, uninhabited. To avoid this, use decor to a minimum and preferably useful.
Let’s start with textiles: a must-have attribute of any bedroom is curtains. Blackouts made of opaque material provide complete darkness even during the day, allowing you to sleep longer on the weekend morning.
Now, bed decoration: pillows, blankets. A few small thoughts can completely change the perception of the room. Another advantage is that decorative pillowcases can be changed at least every season.
Hang pictures on the walls (keep them proportionate: instead of 1 huge one, 2-4 small ones), carpets (yes, they are back in fashion!), decorative wreaths (popular not only for the New Year).
Give up voluminous figures, such as deer antlers – they create unnecessary shadows and look bulky.

The last important nuance is lighting. Think in advance about where exactly the light sources will be located: having one ceiling chandelier in the bedroom is inconvenient, it must be supplemented with lamps on the bedside tables. And if you managed to allocate space for a wardrobe or table, there should also be their own sources near them.
Photos of real interiors
Although the space of 6 sq. m is small, it is more difficult to properly decorate it than average rooms of 10-12 sq. m. Firstly, there is a greater likelihood of making a mistake – it will simply be more noticeable. Secondly, you will most likely have to order custom-made furniture, which is not cheap. Thirdly, you need to take into account many nuances so as not to make the room visually smaller, turning it into a dark closet.

Let’s summarize: the main interior items will be a bed, nightstands, the main color is white, and techniques like mirrors and 3D images still work great.
