Bedside Table
If you are holding self-adhesive film in your hands for the first time, start by remaking the simplest objects: for example, a bedside table.
- Take out the drawers and unscrew the handles.
- Degrease the surface and measure the length and width of the facades.
- On the back of the self-adhesive film there is a protective layer with lines and numbers. Using this marking, it is easy to cut out the required amount of material.
It is not necessary to cover all the furniture – fragmentary decor looks more stylish. The best results for the designs and textures are on a white background.
Door
Old door panels often get a new life thanks to self-adhesive film. In order to apply the film as neatly as possible, the door should be removed from its hinges and placed on a flat surface. Chips and dents must be filled, and small irregularities must be sanded, otherwise the self-adhesive will highlight all the defects.
The door must be cleaned and degreased, and if the base is loose, primed with PVA. Only after such thorough preparation can the material be glued.
It is not difficult to find a film with a slate coating on which you can write with chalk. Stick it on your door to add some flair to your decor and have a useful “chalkboard”.
Kitchen fronts
If your old kitchen unit is strong enough, but its doors have become unusable or you are simply bored with them, self-adhesive film will help. It will make the decor more original and protect the chipboard from moisture. For the kitchen, it is better to choose a high-quality material of the middle price segment.
To stick the coating on the corners, heat it with a hair dryer or iron: this way the film will become more elastic and will be fixed more firmly on the ends of the facades.
Countertop
We are not talking about a dining table or a work table, which are often exposed to mechanical stress. You can cover a small coffee table with self-adhesive film if you want to update it yourself. To make the material lie flat, you should heat it up at the fold with a hairdryer and stretch it so that it lies flat, without folds and bubbles.
LAKK coffee table
The world-famous table from IKEA is one of the most popular products in the store. It is famous for its cheapness and instability to external influences: the structure quickly loses its original appearance, gets chips and scratches.
Self-adhesive film will help to update an old table: it will not only last longer, but will also become an exclusive piece of furniture.
Chest of drawers
Standard chests of drawers can be found in many apartments, but not everyone decides to make a familiar piece of furniture more interesting. Film is an excellent alternative to full painting, it is also stronger than wallpaper and does not require the purchase of glue.
You can decorate both the entire chest of drawers and its individual parts: the ends or facades of the drawers. Most users prefer a wood-like finish, but stylish geometric patterns look much more interesting.
Kitchen apron
Gluing film as protection from grease and splashes in the work area is not the best idea, since it is only suitable as a temporary option. The material will not withstand high temperatures and frequent washing, and a perfectly flat wall is required for its application. But you can decorate boring, tired tiles with self-adhesive film. For reliability, fix the result with varnish.
Wardrobe
If the bulky structure is too dark or outdated, self-adhesive film will be a great solution. It has many color options, so you can choose both a discreet palette to dissolve the cabinet in the space, and a bright one to create a color accent. You can glue it both from the outside and from the inside.
Refrigerator
To make an old kitchen appliance fit into your modern interior, choose new suitable “clothes” for it. The difficulty of pasting a refrigerator is that it is impossible to put it on the floor – all the work will have to be done in an upright position. When cutting, be sure to leave a few centimeters of film on each edge as a reserve, because you won’t be able to “grow” the piece unnoticed.
The surface of the refrigerator is absolutely smooth, so before pasting, you should moisten it with water mixed with dishwashing liquid.
Headboard
Suitable for those who are hesitant to repaint a straight headboard, but want to make it lighter or more expressive. This technique will help update the bedroom, since the bed is the central element of the room.
With the help of self-adhesive film, it is easy to decorate the structure without spending a lot of time and effort. Throw on some bright pillows – and the bedroom will be transformed!
Windows
A special film will help you out if you need to hide from prying eyes from the street, but do not want to hang tulle. This is especially relevant for residents of the first floors, owners of bathrooms with windows and people living in densely built-up areas.
The material lets in sunlight, but masks the contents of the room. You can stick it on the whole window or on part of it.
Interior surfaces of furniture
Here the film plays both a decorative and protective function. A good solution is to cover the back wall of a shelving unit, sideboard or open wall cabinet: this will add individuality to an ordinary item.
And if you want to diversify and protect surfaces, cover the bottom of the drawers with the material: a special aluminum film will do.
With the help of self-adhesive film, you can give old give things a second life: without much time or money. You just need to choose a good color scheme and act carefully.
