Types of designs
Any swing consists of a seat and a suspension system fixed to a suitable support. The support can be either external or part of the structure. The simplest option for an apartment is a board laid on ropes fixed to the ceiling. Let’s consider the most common swing design options.
Hanging swings in the interior
The seat is made of various materials (rubber, plastic, wood), has different shapes. The seat is suspended from the ceiling or walls using special fasteners.
Floor-mounted
The seat and suspension system are combined into a single unit. The advantage of this design is the ability to move from room to room, and there is no need to install them, which is quite difficult and expensive. The downside is their large size, so they are not suitable for small apartments.

Tip: When choosing a swing, pay special attention to its safety, especially if children will be using the swing. All elements should be reliable, durable, and the materials should be environmentally friendly. The seat should not have sharp corners that can easily cause injury.

In a modern apartment, there are not many places where you can hang an object that needs to swing. In addition to ensuring its secure fastening, you should also leave enough space for free swinging back and forth, and also leave a “corridor” for lateral movement. Let’s consider several options for placing hanging swings.
Children’s
When there is a child in the house, the issue of placing such devices is resolved by itself. In a child’s room, hanging swings are hung where there is free space, this can be the center of the room or a place near the window. When the child is not swinging, the seat can be raised to the ceiling or moved to the side and fixed permanently so that it does not take up space and interfere with other activities.

Living room
A swing in the interior of an apartment will successfully replace a regular armchair in the living room. They should be placed so that, rhythmically swinging, you can watch TV or watch the fire burning in the fireplace. This will promote deep relaxation and rest.
Bedroom
If your bedroom has a relaxation area, it can be equipped with a hanging swing.
Loggia
A balcony or loggia in an apartment can be turned into a relaxation area by placing an original swing chair or hammock on it.
Doorway
This is one of the most successful places for hanging children’s swings in the interior of the apartment. Of course, they should be easy to remove from the fasteners and put away when not in use, otherwise the passage from room to room will be difficult. The advantage is that there is usually no bulky furniture near the doorway, and there is enough space for swinging. Minus – the structure will have to be hung and taken down frequently.
Tip: Adults only need light swings with a small amplitude to enjoy relaxation, so swings for adults require less space for installation than children’s swings. In an apartment, they can be installed in the corner of the bedroom so that you can comfortably read a book before going to bed.

Choosing a swing for a child’s room
When choosing a model for children, parents have a special responsibility: the swings themselves are very dangerous. Children can fall off them and get injured when falling, or hit, including on the head, by the swinging seat. There are other ways to accidentally harm yourself, especially if the swing is also used as a sports trainer. Therefore, the main attention should be paid to safety.
- Material. All structural elements must be made of lightweight and durable materials that do not emit harmful substances. The lighter the seat, the less likely it is that the child will be injured in a fall. Swings with plastic seats are preferable for babies.
- Design. The smallest children are secured in the seat with seat belts. Other methods of holding the child in place may also be provided, preventing an accidental fall.
- Fastening. It is better to entrust the installation of hanging swings in an apartment to specialists. When installing them yourself, you need to take into account that in most houses the ceilings are made of hollow slabs, and they are not suitable for hanging devices that bear a serious load.

A swing for an apartment, which is planned to be installed in a children’s room, is chosen in accordance with the age of the children and the tasks that the parents face. Conventionally, all models can be divided into three types:
- for the little ones,
- for physical development,
- for relaxation.
Swing of the first type resemble a cradle, often equipped with speakers to play calm music or nature sounds. In such devices, children lie quietly between feedings and fall asleep well.
The second type is intended for children aged three years and older. A car tire tied to a rope is both a swinging device and an excellent vestibular apparatus trainer, which also helps increase muscle strength and develop coordination.
The third type of swing is suitable not only for children, but also for adults, and can be installed in any room in the apartment.
Design options
Designers have created a huge number of different models of swinging objects that can give comfort, relaxation and create a special mood in the apartment.
Hammock
The simplest and most ancient swing. A universal option – you can hang it both at home and outside, for example, in the front garden or in the country. It does not take up much space, and at the same time can serve as a decorative accent in the interior of the ethnic style. Another advantage of a hammock is its lightness and ease of fastening, but this does not mean that it can be less reliable!
Chair
If you can hang a chair from the ceiling, why not hang a chair? After all, it is lighter! This is what the designers thought, and swing chairs, swing stools, and swing ottomans were born. Danish designers have suspended their popular chair model from the ceiling of an apartment – and they were right! These swings are in demand all over the world.
Armchair
Hanging a chair and swinging in it is not a new idea. The first chair in the shape of an egg was hung by designer Eero Aarnio in the sixties of the last century, since then a huge number of variations of the egg chair (cocoon chair or bubble chair) have appeared. Hanging chairs for an apartment are made of rattan, plastic, ropes, they look different, but they have one thing in common – the shape is similar to an egg. The big advantage of such designs is that they do not require much space for installation, the amplitude of swings does not exceed half a meter.
Sofa
A swing sofa is one of the most popular models for the garden, but there is also a place for it in an apartment. This design will successfully replace a regular sofa in the living room interior, and there is a lot of pleasure from sitting on it! You can swing alone, or with a whole company!
Some designers suggest hanging dining tables and even entire dining groups from the ceiling on chains! An exotic solution, but perhaps someone will like it. In any case, a swing in an apartment will bring pleasure and a special mood to the interior.
