The hinge is torn out of its seat, but it is not badly damaged

The situation when the screws that held the door hinge fell out of their sockets for the first time is the most common and easiest to repair.

  • If the thickness of the door allows, it will be enough to choose larger fasteners and screw the hinge back into its old place.
  • If the thickness of the furniture is not suitable for this method, you need to use wooden dowels. They are first coated with PVA glue and firmly driven into the sockets of the fallen screws.

After complete drying, the hinge is attached to fasteners of the same size as before, but they are screwed not into the surface of the furniture, but into the dowels.

Wooden dowels are sold in all hardware stores

The hinge seat is badly damaged or completely destroyed

If the attachment point is badly damaged, there are three options:

  • Move the hinge slightly above or below the original attachment point. To do this, you will need to make holes in the surface of the furniture using a special drill and screw in the fallen door with self-tapping screws.
  • Fill the attachment point and the hinge itself with epoxy glue. If you use the furniture carefully after such repairs, you can extend its service life for several years.
  • If the damage to the seat is so severe that you cannot use the first two methods, you will need to drill it out completely, then glue a wooden “patch” to this place and attach a loop to it.

Video instruction

There is another repair method that is only suitable for chipboard furniture. It is shown in detail in the video.

To avoid problems with door hinges, choose furniture with high-quality fittings and do not violate the technology of its use. If the budget is limited, save on decor, quality should be a priority. And if a breakdown does occur, try to fix it at the initial stage, without causing serious damage.
