Sink in the corner
In an effort to save space and increase the countertop area, many people place the sink in the very corner, but in reality this option is not the most convenient. You will need additional lighting, the lower cabinets will interfere with turning on and using the faucet, and bending over to the dishes will become dangerous because of the upper wall cabinet.
It is better when you can approach the sink from both sides, so place it away from the corner. If this is not possible, move it a little closer to the work surface, sacrificing a little countertop. The second solution is to order a special corner cabinet and place the sink closer to the edge, as in the first photo.
Don’t worry that the corner will remain unused – a microwave oven, multicooker or other small household appliances will fit perfectly there.
Inconvenient drawers
When thinking about the storage system of the new corner kitchen, Replace a couple of cabinets with hinged doors with drawers: their space is used much more efficiently, since when opening and looking for what you need, you just pull them out, rather than rearranging the items in front.
Try not to choose overly wide designs – when they are full, they are difficult to pull out. But do not make a gross mistake when designing the corner: roll-out drawers and doors should not touch each other when opening!
Do not forget about the internal filling of the corner space: order a roll-out design. A carousel shelf is much more economical than a swing-out basket.
A massive corner cabinet
If you want your kitchen to look more modern and lighter, refuse a wall cabinet with a single beveled door. It is more expensive than regular cabinets, looks bulky, and its interior is difficult to organize sensibly.
Either leave the corner free, or arrange the top row in one line, hanging open shelves or rails on the empty wall.
Open shelves in the kitchen are usually criticized for accumulating dust. But this technique, borrowed from professional chefs, allows you to reduce the time spent on cooking and cleaning: dirty hands do not stain the cabinet doors, and all the necessary and frequently used utensils are freely accessible.
Visible seams
A corner countertop connected with planks looks less neat than a solid surface, thanks to which the kitchen looks more integral and expensive. The only available material that allows you to design a tabletop without seams is artificial stone, which is not considered the cheapest option.
If you choose a budget option, you can do without a connecting strip, joining the tabletop at a right angle using a Euro saw. This method requires perfectly aligned walls and professional equipment. If you choose an overhead aluminum strip, minimize the number of seams.
Stove next to refrigerator
Another mistake made by owners of corner kitchens is placing the stove next to the refrigerator. Try to plan your kitchen so that the appliance does not come into contact with hot equipment.
How to do it:
- Separate the stove and refrigerator with a narrow cabinet.
- Purchase a built-in oven and refrigerator.
- Use tempered glass and thermal insulation as protection.
If you neglect this rule, the refrigerator will heat up more, work more intensively, consuming electricity, and require defrosting and repair more often.
Incorrectly selected details
Inappropriate elements in a small corner kitchen can ruin even the most expensive set. The most effective way to make the room optically wider is to eliminate visual noise in the form of wallpaper with a small pattern, magnets on the refrigerator, decorations on the facades and gaudy curtains on the windows.
Do not choose the simplest and most popular handles for a new set – they will make your kitchen furniture cheaper, even if it is not budget.
When ordering a corner kitchen, consider the option of opening the doors by pressing. Furniture without handles looks more stylish and modern.
If you take into account the listed mistakes and do not make them, the corner kitchen will please you with functionality, convenience and beautiful appearance for many years.
