Environmental friendliness
A distinctive feature of modern dachas is their departure from the “apartment” design. Most people go out of town to relax in nature, even if the rest involves working in the garden. Tired of megacities, dacha residents find spiritual harmony among the chirping of birds, space and a unique way of life.
But it is here that the trends of reasonable consumption are especially appropriate: the reuse of plastic containers, clothes, wooden pallets, old windows, etc. Many household items for the dacha can easily be made with your own hands from improvised means.
The same eco-friendly approach can be seen in the interiors of country houses: this is the use of natural building materials and textiles (wood, metal, clay, glass, cotton, linen) in decoration.
Keep in mind: using cheap plastic bottles and tires as decoration in the garden and vegetable garden has little to do with ecology. An area overloaded with such details begins to look like a landfill.
Patio
A cozy patio – a place to relax – can also be designed independently. The simplest solution is an open area without a roof over your head. The fire pit can be lined with sand, natural or artificial stone, bricks.
Garden furniture will be a functional addition: it can be moved into the house in case of bad weather. A mobile awning or beach umbrella will protect from the scorching sun.
Gazebos, pavilions, pergolas and canopies are more expensive options. But they are built for many years, turning part of the site into a cozy place for outdoor conversations, cooking and eating.
Dry stream
The illusion of a dried-up water stream is a common technique that helps to create an impressive and modern landscape design. You can form curves with your own hands from pebbles, small and large stones, colored stone chips.
To make the composition look harmonious, think over its location in advance by drawing the stream on a paper plan: start with the “source” and finish with the “mouth”. The riverbed should flow from a fountain or an overturned jug and unite significant elements of the flower beds. You can complement the stream with a bridge and garden lanterns.
Banks and bends are ideal places for flower beds, benches and decorative sculptures. A meandering stream visually increases the size of a small area, and a slightly deepened one acts as a drainage ditch for wet areas.
Raised beds
This trend is gaining more and more popularity due to its aesthetics: raised beds, framed with processed wooden boards, make gardening easier and bring a rich harvest. They warm up faster, dry out more slowly and can be filled with exactly the soil mixture that certain crops need.
With raised beds, the garden looks more orderly and neat. Instead of boards, you can use vines, stones, bricks, slate, concrete and even stainless steel sheets.
Low-maintenance garden
Recently, simplification has become a priority for landscape designers – they move away from complex elements and make gardens that require minimal maintenance. To do this, specialists:
- plant flower beds from perennials that require a minimum of fertilizers and division;
- separate plantings and the lawn with a border so that the grass is easier to mow without touching the flowers;
- plant shrubs in groups to make them easier to trim;
- form paths through which the grass does not break through: hard surfaces are much easier to care for than plantings;
- use only disease-resistant plants.
Natural helpers
If you are not a supporter of chemical methods of pest control, attract to your site predators and birds that will help you deal with caterpillars and mice. In the USA and Europe, these methods are successfully used by owners of country houses:
- Hang a birdhouse and a bird feeder. Add a pedestal-shaped drinker to the landscape, which will decorate the area. In winter, feed the birds with a special mixture or balls of lard, seeds, millet and peanuts.
- A small house made from a box or a box filled with dry leaves will become a shelter for a hedgehog that will spend the winter on your site. In the summer, it will help in the fight against slugs and mice.
- Create a small pond on the territory, where frogs, newts and dragonflies will settle. A pond is an independent ecosystem, and even a small plastic container decorated with stones and plants will be useful.
- Build a hotel for beneficial pollinating insects – bees, wasps, butterflies, and also ladybugs that destroy aphids. Stone and wood are suitable, in particular, sticks, bark, reed stems.
“Chekhov” dacha
More and more often, owners of summer cottages come here to relax, rather than waste energy working in the garden or vegetable garden. This approach is reminiscent of the measured life of the nobility in pre-revolutionary Russia, which leaves its mark on the surrounding environment.
In many trendy country projects, it is easy to notice retro details that have been preserved since the beginning of the 20th century: Thonet chairs, wicker furniture, lace tablecloths on wooden tables. Such interiors have a special charm – the house with a mezzanine is flooded with sunlight all day long, tea parties are held on the cool veranda, and light meals are prepared in the summer kitchen.
To create the illusion of a noble nest, you need light colors, airy textiles, elegant antique furniture, as well as vintage decor and special inspiration.
Open-air cinema
This is another trend that is gaining momentum in our country. Progress does not stand still, and people have more opportunities to spend their leisure time in an interesting way: it is not difficult to organize a movie show in the open air with a projector. A sheet stretched between trees or a white wall can serve as a screen.
To create a magical mood, hang garlands, stock up on pillows, ottomans and chairs, and place mosquito repellents. Don’t forget about drinks, snacks and blankets, as well as neighbors who will surely want to join you.
Vertical gardening
Multi-tiered plant compositions allow you to take a broader look at your country house and use areas that previously seemed useless. With the help of hanging flowerpots for ampelous flowers or vertical beds, you can divide the space, decorate unsightly fences, and green buildings with climbing plants.
Flower beds and beds located on the upper tiers save useful space, which is especially important for small areas. Vertical gardening also helps to save energy – as in the case of high beds, you do not have to bend over to the plants.
Summer cottage minimalism
Many summer cottage owners are used to bringing here things and furniture that have served their time in the apartment. Often this thriftyness brings a lot of benefits, but when decorating a summer cottage, it is important separate truly necessary items from junk that will never be useful.
In a small space of a house, you have to arrange several functional zones, and if the rooms are cluttered with unnecessary things, you deprive yourself of comfort and “air”, complicate cleaning and create visual noise.
In 2021, fashionable trends in country interior and landscape design are democratic and accessible to everyone – you only need to desire.
