Hedge
Beautifully flowering shrubs or trees with lush crowns planted along the boundaries of the site are quite self-sufficient, but they do not form a physical barrier to uninvited guests, so they cannot replace a permanent fence. Well, why not combine the chain-link fence with greenery?
The best choice for this purpose are unpretentious, fast-growing crops:
- lilac;
- hydrangea;
- dogwood;
- rose hips;
- barberry;
- thuja;
- dogwood;
- jasmine;
- juniper;
- cypress;
- mock orange.
If you want to decorate the chain-link fence and at the same time cover it with dense thickets for the whole year, use coniferous trees!
Creeping plants
The cellular structure of the chain-link fence itself hints at the possibility of using the fence as a support for bindweed and vines. Such decoration will look as natural, cozy and soulful as possible, but, as in the previous case, you will have to wait until the fence grows – this is the only downside of the idea.
You can plant many nice and undemanding crops at the foot of the net:
- trellis varieties of roses;
- wild grapes;
- clematis;
- hops;
- ivy;
- morning glory;
- bougainvillea;
- honeysuckle.
Some summer residents plant not decorative, but fruit-bearing plants along the fence: grape vines, cucumbers, tomatoes. The decoration is unreliable, and also tempting for passers-by, but if you are not afraid for your harvest, try this option!
Vertical flowerbed
In order not to wait for the hedge to grow and turn lush green, you can hang flowers in pots on the chain-link mesh or be creative and use something else as a container:
- wicker baskets;
- wooden boxes;
- cut plastic bottles;
- rubber boots or galoshes;
- children’s buckets.
If you liked the idea of decorating the chain-link mesh with a vertical flowerbed, but you are worried about the safety of the flowers, do not make reliable permanent fastenings for them, on the contrary, limit yourself to removable hooks so that you can put the pots in the house during your long absence.
Nets and shields
And this option is for the most determined and impatient owners. In a matter of minutes, you can decorate a fence, create shade and hide your property from prying eyes with ready-made devices:
- shading net with the desired degree of transparency;
- camouflage net of different colors and thickness;
- burlap or tarpaulin;
- photo mesh with any pattern;
- bamboo mats;
- polycarbonate or plywood boards.
These materials are not the same in cost and durability, but they are all easy to install and look decent.
I would like to highlight the photo mesh – it is made of durable synthetic fabric, is not afraid of precipitation and does not fade in the sun, and anything can be depicted on it, from imitation of beautiful natural textures (stone, cork, wood) to flowering fields, sea spaces and city landscapes.
Planks and branches
You can vertically or insert long objects horizontally so that the fence is not transparent and looks nicer choose:
- plastic slats;
- wooden planks;
- branches and twigs;
- bamboo, reed or bulrush;
- artificial pine needles.
Decorating a chain-link fence with natural materials is easy and inexpensive, but your work will last 2-3 seasons at most if you do not cover the wood with a protective compound. But ready-made slats made of a durable polymer alloy or coniferous branches, like those used to assemble folding Christmas trees, not only look impressive and neat, but also last a long time.
Ribbons and ropes
The following ideas will appeal to those who consider a chain-link fence as a field for creativity. By threading colored ribbons or tape between the cells, it is easy to create a simple geometric picture, and if you want to get a more complex pattern, it is better to use colored strips of fabric or ropes.
Imagine that the chain-link fence is a canvas. Take a strong thread or cord and create a pattern on the fence like cross-stitch or macrame weaving. This activity will require certain skills and patience, but the result will please the artist and delight his neighbors.
Plastic dishes
Colored plastic bottles, their caps or cups will allow you to cheaply and originally decorate the chain-link fence at your dacha – choose the material in accordance with the size of the cells. To get a complete picture, you will have to remember how you put together puzzles or mosaics as a child.
Many people are stopped from implementing this idea by the reluctance to select containers of the right colors. But you don’t have to do that — transparent bottles and white cups will do, just paint them with paint that’s resistant to moisture and fading in the sun.
Art installations
This category includes creative sketches born from a flight of fancy and embodied on a chain-link fence, such as on canvas.
The following can be used as materials:
- colored glass;
- sea shells;
- mirror fragments;
- old compact discs;
- plastic cubes.
Take a look in the attic and rummage through your storage bins – maybe there is something there that can be used to create an interesting composition on the fence, because it is easy to attach any object to it.
