What types are there?

There are 3 types of accessories based on the installation method.

  • Wall clocks in the interior are a classic of the genre. They come in different sizes: from very compact ones, usually hanging above the desk, to large ones, taking up half the wall above the sofa or bed.
  • Floor clocks. Large clocks in the interior do not necessarily have to hang on the wall. They can stand on the floor – but it should be taken into account that the model will take up more space, unlike the previous ones. The dial is at the top, a clock mechanism with a pendulum is usually installed below, or space is left for small shelves, a bar, flower stands.
  • Table clocks. They differ from wall clocks in the installation method and size. Table clocks, as the name suggests, are placed on tables, cabinets, chests of drawers, shelves – so they should be quite compact. If it is an alarm clock, the size does not matter. If you use them as decoration, choose dimensions that allow the time to be seen from the farthest point of the room.

According to the mechanism, there are 2 types of interior clocks:

  • Mechanical. They require regular manual winding and operate on the energy of a spiral. Those same old houses with a cuckoo.
  • Quartz. They use the energy of electrical impulses: they operate from a battery or an outlet. Almost all modern models of small and large clocks in the interior.

Where to hang a clock?

While table clocks need a suitable surface, and floor clocks fit harmoniously only into spacious halls, wall clocks are suitable for absolutely all rooms.

A clock in the living room interior is most appropriate. There is a temptation to put it above the sofa, but then you will not be able to see the time while in the room. From this point of view, the best place for a clock in the living room interior is opposite the seat. For example, above the TV.

Another good option is a clock above the fireplace in the interior of a private house.

In the kitchen, it is recommended to hang it above the dining table or use it in the free space above the work area. Chronometers above the refrigerator look appropriate, but the room should be large enough so that the time can still be seen.

The clock in the bedroom interior should be as quiet as possible: without the audible movement of the second or minute hand. Otherwise, problems with sleep may arise. Wall clocks look great above the headboard, but it is better to give preference to compact alarm clocks on bedside tables.

The place where You can’t do without a clock in the interior – the hallway. For those who don’t like to be late, preferring to keep track of the time they leave the house – this is a functional addition to the design. An interesting option for a hallway clock is a two-sided “train station” model, decorated with a forged bracket.

Timing is no less important in a child’s room, especially for schoolchildren: to ensure that your child does everything on time, buy him or her a personal, bright wall clock. You can make a clock for a child’s room yourself together with your child or let him choose the option he likes.

Preschoolers will like special colorful models with a schedule: instead of numbers on the dial, there are clear pictures of what exactly the child should be doing at that moment. For example, sleep, bathe, eat, play.

How to choose for different styles?

To make the clock look appropriate in the interior, it is selected to match the functionality of the room and the style of decoration.

Adherents of the classic style prefer one of two: wooden floor clocks decorated with carved elements or metal wall clocks. Classic wall clocks in the interior are considered to be round, with Roman numerals, without unnecessary decor.

The modern trend dictates its own rules of style: the choice is made between large clocks in the interior or minimalist ones – with Arabic numerals, straight hands, a case without decorations. Or unusual: without numbers on a cut of wood, on a leather pendant-belt, in the form of the sun with the thinnest rays.

High-tech style, traditionally — the connection of glass and metal. This pattern can also be seen in chronometers: they may not even have a case, being attached directly to the wall. The second feature is technological advancement. In addition to showing the time, they are supplemented with functions for showing the temperature, humidity in the room, weather forecast, connecting to a smartphone, and a motion sensor.

The minimalist style dictates the rejection of excesses, so only the minute, hour hands, and some divisions (from 4 to 12) are left in the clock mechanism. The second hand, numbers, and other details are removed as unnecessary. The design should be laconic.

In the loft style, original chronometers are used as the main decor idea. Models with open gears in the steampunk style, retro-style lamp clocks, a combination of wood, metal (iron, bronze, copper), and concrete will fit perfectly here.

How do they look in the interior?

To make the accessory look appropriate in any style or room, follow the simple advice of designers:

  • Start from the wall. For an empty surface, neutral wallpaper, bright models will suit, for an accent – calm classics.

  • Place it at the right height. A level slightly above the eyes is considered comfortable. For people of average height, ~170 cm from the floor is suitable.

  • Consider the typical scenario when entering a room. What are you doing in the room, where are you sitting or standing, where will it be convenient to check the time? It is more logical to choose the location of the clock based on this knowledge, rather than wanting to occupy an empty wall.

  • Assess the proportionality. A small model will be lost on the wall in a spacious living room, and too large will look comical in a small kitchen.

Finally, one more piece of advice – when buying an interior clock, keep in mind: you will have to look at it every day. Therefore, first of all, you should like them! And only then should they match the style, design and functionality of the room.
