Clapboard
Wooden slats with a tongue-and-groove lock are often used today for wall and ceiling paneling in cottages made of logs or rounded logs. The clapboard can have different shapes, thicknesses and widths – all you have to do is choose the option you like.
Installation is simple and quick, to metal or wooden lathing, and the cost will depend on the type of wood. After installation, the slats are usually treated with stain and varnish.
Block house looks impressive – a type of lining with a semicircular surface that imitates a rounded log.
Painting
If you want color variety, do not varnish the wooden wall covering, but paint it. You can choose one dominant shade and cover one or two walls with it, and leave the rest in their natural form or paint them white.
A new trend is an accent wall made of clapboard, individual slats of which are painted in contrasting colors. This solution is relevant for a living room or bedroom in a wooden house.
Unedged board
To emphasize the natural beauty of wood, sometimes it is better not to do almost anything with it. Wall decoration with unedged board looks amazing in chalet, country or old Russian village style interiors that are close to us in spirit.
You should not think that this material is only suitable for rural estates. Combining unedged boards with decorative stone, glass and metal, you can get an ultra-fashionable modern interior.
Planken
This is a German word, meaning “boards” and, like everything that comes from Germany, it is reliable, respectable and… unfortunately, expensive. But just look at that finish! The material, usually softwood, is dried to contain less than 12% moisture, the slats have rounded or inward-slanted edges, and come in a variety of colors, from white to black. The glossy shine and perfectly smooth surface are especially impressive.
Since planken is not a cheap finish, it makes sense to decorate only part of the room with it or make an accent wall, and cover the remaining surfaces with plasterboard and paint, plaster or wallpaper.
MDF panels
Moving from expensive materials to affordable ones, I would like to recall MDF – these are panels made of pressed wood chips, the density of which reaches 800 kg/sq. m. The surface can be veneered, laminated or painted, and the shape can be anything from thin slats to huge rectangles.
3D panels made of MDF, imitating natural timber and unevenly protruding from the wall, are currently gaining popularity. With their help it is easy to set a stylish accent in the living room or bedroom.
Plywood
Another inexpensive but practical material for finishing walls in wooden houses is good old plywood. It is easily and quickly mounted on the lathing and can look decent on its own, although if desired, plywood walls can easily be painted or wallpapered.
Unfinished plywood looks best in the interior of rooms that are covered with it from bottom to top, including the ceiling.
Stone
Usually, when this material is mentioned, people clutch their heads ― natural stone, so expensive… No, modern stone tiles and panels are made of gypsum or cement, and then painted, so they are affordable and surprisingly natural and original. They go well with clapboard, timber, MDF.
It is not necessary to cover all the walls in the room with decorative stone. It looks very beautiful as a decoration for a fireplace area.
Cork
Wood is valued for its naturalness, and fans of everything natural and environmentally friendly will certainly like the idea of decorating one or more walls in their home with cork. This material looks harmonious in combination with wood, dampens noise and vibrations well, promotes a healthy indoor microclimate and heat retention. Cork coverings seem to be created for cozy country living rooms, dining rooms and home bars.
Finishing cork can be presented in separate segments, solid panels and even rolls – everything is your choice!
