Canopy from improvised materials

The easiest way to hide from bright sunlight is to make a shelter from what can be found in any home: ropes and blankets. This is a great option for creating shade: both a child and an adult will feel cozy here.

This method will appeal to those who do not want to spend money and precious time on making complex and bulky structures: it is enough to stretch a rope between two trees and throw a blanket over it.

Bed lounger with a canopy

More a well-thought-out design that is suitable for small summer cottages. It is specially designed for a quiet rest in nature: reading, sunbathing, watching movies in a homemade outdoor cinema. The timber supports are attached either by casting special concrete pillars or on a rectangular wooden base.

The lounger can be made from pallets, and all wooden elements must be covered with moisture-proof compounds.

Canopy for a summer kitchen

If the plot is small and the load on the landscape needs to be minimized, the buildings can be raised on piles. The design in the photo looks stylish and laconic. The barbecue area follows the architecture of the house: there is a cooking area covered by a simple pitched canopy with a transparent roof made of plexiglass.

A canopy for relaxation made of fabric

You can create a structure that will protect you from the sun without complex calculations and expensive construction tools. It is necessary to place the support pillars in large containers (barrels, metal tanks), reinforcing them with stones or bricks, and stretch ropes between the supports.

Any suitable fabric can serve as a roof, but you can also buy a waterproof one with special fasteners.

Universal canopy extension

The structure is made of wood, has several supports and is adjacent to the facade of the house. One side of the structure is completely closed, and the other three are open. To make the extension visually form a single whole with the building, use the same material for the roof as for the roof.

You can leave a car under the canopy, lay wood or arrange a recreation area.

You can protect the sandbox from the sun’s rays not only from above, but also from any side by hanging additional drapery on the crossbar.

Temporary canopy-tent

Another version of a simple design, for the manufacture of which you’ll need wooden slats (4 pieces), one crossbar, and fabric. You need to drill holes in the bars and insert the crossbar into them. The edges of the fabric should be stitched and sewn to each corner on an elastic band about 10 cm long, folded in half.

The folding house is very convenient: it can be put away during bad weather and taken outside on a hot day.

Made of metal profile

This canopy is an extension of the roof and serves not only as a kind of porch, but also protects the car from atmospheric influences. The supports are made of steel, the roof is made of profiled sheets. The extension is architecturally simple, but reliable. The inclined plane of the roof does not allow water or large masses of snow to accumulate.

Unlike polycarbonate, corrugated sheets do not let in sunlight, therefore they create a completely shaded area.

Wooden canopies for firewood

Such protective structures can be either free-standing or adjacent to a fence or house. The roof of the shed should protect the firewood from moisture, so it is built with a single or double slope.

The walls of the woodshed should be ventilated so that the fuel remains dry, so the lattice structure that is often used to decorate the shed plays not only a decorative but also a practical role.

Shed made of PVC pipes

Plastic pipes are so convenient in use, that craftsmen constantly find different uses for them. The material is also suitable for making a canopy: it is only important to fix the finished frame to the ground. Ordinary tulle curtains with a ready-made fastening are suitable for the roof and ceiling: they can be easily threaded through the pipes.

The structure will not protect from rain, but will give a pleasant coolness on a hot day. White transparent fabric looks picturesque and will decorate any summer cottage.

With a retractable roof

Such purchased canopies are quite expensive, but if desired, a folding structure made of fabric can be made with your own hands. It can be opened to let the sun in and closed when shade is needed. You will need polypropylene pipes with plugs, a metal cable, fabric and screws with eyes.

The awning is attached to wooden supports and a crossbar in the form of a board. Choose fabric with water-repellent impregnation so that you don’t have to remove the canopy during precipitation.

A self-made canopy will not only protect you from the sun, but also be a source of pride for the owner of the dacha.
