Eurobook sofa mechanism

Eurobook sofa mechanismIt is rather difficult to talk about the mechanism in this case, since in fact it is absent in most models. It is more correct to talk about the design. The part on which they sit is pulled out “towards themselves” along special guides, which can be either metal or wooden (made of hardwood). After that, the backrest is lowered forward.

The mechanism of the Eurobook sofa

The mechanism of the Eurobook sofa works as follows:

  1. You need to pull the seat “towards you” until it stops. A niche is formed between the backrest and the seat, while the linen drawer is open, you can use it. In some models, the sofa legs have wheels that make it easier to unfold. There are also models called “tick-tack”: if you pull the seat towards you, it rises slightly, “emerges” upward and then smoothly lowers into place. Such a mechanism is more complex, and the cost of the sofa is higher.
  2. After the seat is pulled forward as far as it will go, the backrest is lowered into the vacated niche. The part of it that faces the wall when folded is at the top. In terms of filler, it matches the seat. To better understand how the mechanism of transformation of the Eurobook sofa works, watch the video below.

Unfolding the Eurobook sofa (mechanism, video)

Let’s consider in detail all the pros and cons of such mechanisms.

Advantages of the mechanism:

  • High reliability. Since there are no complex metal structures and moving parts here, there will be no breakdowns, and possible malfunctions can be easily eliminated independently, without the help of specialists.
  • Ease of use. To disassemble and assemble the Eurobook sofa, you do not need to put in much effort, it is done quickly and easily.
  • Affordable price. The simple design does not require large manufacturing costs, therefore, the final price is also low.

Disadvantages of the mechanism:

  • Unfolding. When the Eurobook sofa is unfolded, the legs can scratch the parquet or linoleum. Wheels attached to the legs solve the problem, but they are not suitable for carpets, since over time they form a rolled “path”, crushing the pile.
  • Sleeping area. It consists of two parts, and has a joint. Although there is no difference in height, the joint can still be felt and cause inconvenience.
  • Installation. You will have to leave some space between the sofa and the wall, otherwise it will be difficult to unfold it.

Important: In high-quality sofas, all components fit tightly. If you can fit a finger between the seat and the armrest, the Eurobook sofa will most likely not last long.

Eurobook sofas with soft fillers

Soft sheet material is placed under the seat upholstery – polyurethane foam, foam rubber, latex, etc. Depending on the price of the filler, the consumer qualities and price of the product change.

  • Foam rubber. The cheapest and least durable option. Foam rubber quickly loses its properties and deteriorates.

  • Polyurethane foam. The main advantage is its low price. It forms a rather hard sleeping surface, more suitable for sitting than for sleeping.

  • Latex. Artificial and natural latex are excellent fillers, they provide comfortable sleep. The main disadvantage is the high price.

Eurobook sofas with a spring block

A block of springs is used as a filler, which provides high orthopedic advantages. There are two types:

  • Bonnell (dependent springs). A block of springs connected to each other in a “snake”. The main advantage is a relatively affordable price. The disadvantage is short life. The average service life does not exceed 10 years, and the failure of one spring means that the entire sofa will quickly become unusable: the springs will begin to come out and tear through the upholstery. In addition, the coupled springs make a noticeable noise if a person sitting or lying on the sofa starts moving.

  • Independent. The block, made up of springs packed in separate covers, is a real orthopedic mattress. It provides comfort to a sitting person, proper support for the spine during sleep, and does not make noise if you toss and turn on it. Such a block lasts longer than “bonnell” – up to 15 years. The only downside is the rather high price of Eurobook sofas with an orthopedic mattress.

Important: Not every mattress that says it is orthopedic is actually so. To avoid being deceived, check how much the quality matches the stated one. It is very easy to do. Ask for a glass of water, put it at the edge of the sofa, and sit in the center. The glass should not move, and the liquid should not spill out of it.

Types of Eurobook sofas

According to their design features, all sofas that fold out according to this principle can be divided into several types:

  • Corner sofas.

A eurobook sofa without armrests is an excellent choice if there is not much space in the room. It will be approximately half a meter shorter than with armrests with the same size of the bed. The only inconvenience is that during sleep the pillow can fall on the floor. A compromise option is one armrest. It takes up a little more space, but it will be more comfortable to sleep on, the pillow will stay in place at night.

Two armrests are more convenient if the sofa is mainly intended for sitting. In addition, armrests are often complemented with MDF panels that act as tables, as well as various structures such as niches, shelves and even a mini-bar. This is quite convenient, but makes the sofa more expensive.

Important: The armrest is a kind of “face” of the manufacturer, its quality can be used to judge the quality of the entire sofa. Pay attention to the seam with which the fabric parts are sewn: if it is even, made with thick threads – the Eurobook sofa is made on good equipment, professionally. Uneven stitching with a thin thread, with gaps, “wobbling” means that the sofa was made in artisanal conditions.
