Deciduous
White Willow
The tree is very undemanding to maintenance, grows quickly, and is easily propagated by cuttings. There are many varieties with crowns of various shapes and sizes. To quickly green the area, you should pay attention to the fast-growing variety – White Willow. Its annual growth ranges from 60-100 cm. After 15 years, the growth rate slows down to 30 cm per year.
For faster development, the plant needs to be provided with appropriate conditions. It loves slightly alkaline moist soil and good lighting.
White Willow is very durable, frost-resistant, easily tolerates even heavy smoke, is completely unpretentious when growing and has a good ability to regenerate. By pruning, you can create a crown of any shape.
Maple
Not all types of maple are fast-growing, so I advise you to pay attention to silver and ash-leaved. The growth rate of these species with proper care reaches up to 1 m per year. Maple leaves will delight you with their unusual shape all season long, and in the fall, the red foliage will create an incredible creative mood.
Prefers moist soils and is not afraid of transplantation, so you can change your mind at any time. But it has fragile wood, so during strong winds or heavy rainfall, branches can break. I advise against planting it near the house.
Birch
One of the fastest growing tree crops – annual growth at the peak of development is from 1 to 2 m. Its beautiful snow-white trunk will help to create indescribable compositions and arrange your garden in a minimum time.
Breeders have bred a huge number of varieties of this tree. There are garden birches with different trunk bends, crown types, non-standard leaf shapes and colors. The fastest growing are warty (drooping, weeping) and curly varieties. They form a crown faster than others and the trunk increases in diameter.
The plant lives quite a long time, likes a lot of light and moderately acidic soil. For normal growth, it requires a lot of moisture, but not all varieties, there are drought-resistant ones. All birches are frost-resistant crops. They are resistant to diseases and pests. And they also bloom early in the spring.
Paulownia
The leader in growth rate – in the middle zone, the annual increase is about 2 meters, and for the southern regions it reaches 3. But the advantages of the fast-growing Paulownia do not end there – it has beautiful and huge heart-shaped leaves, and fragrant flowers will delight you with their smell.
If there are ants on your site, then this is not a problem for it, because Paulownia is resistant to almost all types of insects. This tree is also undemanding to the soil. For more northern regions, I recommend choosing the frost-resistant variety Pao Tong Z07.
Poplar
These trees are fast-growing only for the first 40 years, and then their growth slows down. Choose Columnar or Delta varieties, which grow faster than all others. Average annual growth is about a meter.
It is worth noting that the tree crown has an aesthetic shape that does not require significant care. It does not like too wet soils and prefers good access to the sun. There is one nuance: in the spring it forms a lot of fluff, which will be a problem for allergy sufferers.
Conifers
Taxodium distichus
The second name is Swamp Cypress. They belong to deciduous coniferous trees, native to North America. But the culture also feels normal in the Russian regions. The tree grows quite quickly and will help out if there is a shaded area with damp, even swampy soil on the site.
More often than not, nothing takes root in such a place, but the fast-growing taxodium will add 0.5-0.6 m per year. Its maximum height is 10-12 m.
Important! The tree tolerates winters well with temperatures dropping to -30 °C. But this applies to adult trees, young ones need to be additionally insulated by mulching the trunk circle. During the summer drought, the tree must be watered 1-2 times a week. Additionally, mulching will help retain moisture. The soil should preferably be slightly acidic.
Spruce
The fastest growing species that grow well in the middle zone are: Common spruce and Serbian spruce. The maximum height reaches 20-40 meters (depending on the specific variety and conditions). In the first year of planting, the tree has a minimum growth of only 4-10 cm. But then the rate increases and reaches 30-40 cm.
It has a lush, neat crown, conical in shape with dark cones. It will decorate your site even in frosty winter. But it does not grow well in too wet soils.
Pine
There are more fast-growing species of pines, so you can consider the common, Rumelian and Weymouth pine. Their average growth is 15-20 cm per season. Due to their exquisite beauty, they are great for decorating a site.
But among pines, there is one fast-growing option that is ideal for the impatient, and its growth is already about 1 meter. Impressive? Yes, and this “superhero” among conifers is the flexible pine “Vanderwolf Pyramid”. Frost-resistant, not afraid of insects, has soft needles and a maximum height of no more than 15 meters.
Abies monochromatic
One of the fastest growing conifers. Its annual growth is 0.35-0.55 m and 0.15 m in width, after 10 years the growth rate slows down. This is an evergreen plant with a beautiful conical crown and a straight trunk. It will be an excellent decoration for any yard during the New Year holidays.
In spring and summer, the tree also has a very beautiful appearance. Its cones change color from light green to brown during the ripening period and fill the entire yard with a spruce-lemon aroma.
For normal growth, fertile acidic or slightly alkaline soil is preferable. Sandy-clay soil is also suitable. Fir is very photophilous, easily tolerates droughts and frosts.
Fruit trees
Cherry
If you want to make your garden not only beautiful, but also benefit from it, then you should choose fast-growing fruit crops. Cherry is considered the leader in growth. New varieties developed by breeders look like fully grown trees after 4-5 years. From this age they produce up to 15-25 kg of fruit per season.
It has a spreading crown with wide leaves, which provide good shade. And it looks quite attractive – glossy bark and leaves with bright red fruits. The tree grows in any soil, is undemanding in care and easily tolerates frosts. An adult plant is quite resistant to diseases and consistently yields a harvest for 20 years.
Red-leaved bird cherry
Another example of fruit trees that are resistant to frost and have excellent rapid growth. It is also called Virginia bird cherry. The maximum height does not exceed 10 meters. It has beautiful flowers and fleshy berries, which you can try already in the 3rd year of planting.
This fast-growing variety is absolutely unpretentious, but compared to ordinary bird cherry, it has a less pronounced aroma. It has an average growth of 60 cm to 1 m with proper care. Quite resistant to insects, but sometimes subject to attacks by leaf rollers, so it is worth inspecting periodically.
I would like to remind you that quite recently, for the quick decoration of garden plots, crops that today belong to the group of invasive were actively offered. Planting such trees is prohibited or not recommended near agricultural lands. This group includes Pennsylvania ash, rowan-leaved mountain ash, etc.
