Make a ventilation grille

1. Glue a plastic ring to the hole. Purchase it in a store or cut it out of PVC material yourself. The hole should be inside the ring.
2. When the ring is firmly glued, it is necessary to enlarge the hole without crossing the borders of the ring.
3. Install the ventilation grill.
4. The defect will be hidden and additional ventilation will appear.

It is important to use special glue for stretch ceilings, since the composition of ordinary glue may not be suitable and the gluing will be fragile.

A dummy fire system is suitable for this method of masking, it masks the problem well and looks aesthetically pleasing.

Install a built-in lamp

The method is appropriate, if the damage to the film ceiling is not located on the seam. In order to remove the hole in the canvas using a lighting fixture, you will need to partially remove the stretch covering, and then install it back.

Step-by-step installation instructions:

1. As in the previous version, you need to glue a plastic ring over the puncture to fix the hole.
2. Use a knife to enlarge the hole to the inner edges of the ring. Make marks on the ceiling where the lamp will be located.
3. Next, remove part of the stretch fabric to make room for installing the metal profile.
4. Screw the profile to the ceiling at the marked place. If the ceiling is made of wood, you need to use self-tapping screws. If it is made of concrete – dowels.
5. Pull the wiring from the distributor to the desired location, mount the stretch ceiling back.
6. Close the socket of the lighting fixture.

Glue the applique

If the damage is large enough and cannot be masked using the previous methods, then you can seal the hole in the stretch ceiling using an applique.

This method is also suitable for cases where the material cannot be removed and remounted.

The applique can be used as a decorative item in the house, especially if the rupture occurred in children’s room.

Such decorative stickers can be purchased at an interior store. They have many different options for themes, colors and sizes, so it will not be difficult to choose the right one.

It’s very easy to glue it:

1. Remove the top layer from a special white backing;
2. carefully attach from one edge to the other;
3. then smooth it out without damaging the ceiling itself.

Pull the canvas

If there is a small hole in the PVC stretch ceiling, located no more than 1.5 centimeters from the fastener strips, the material can be pulled up to the fastener.

Pull it up is suitable if the covering was not “over-pulled” during installation and it is possible to pull it up without the risk of tearing the material more.

For re-pulling necessary:

1. Before starting, you first need to secure the hole with tape so that it does not increase in size from tension.
2. Next, remove the fasteners.
3. Heat the ceiling with a regular household hair dryer, stretch the fabric.
4. Install the mounting strip in place.

Glue on the patch

A good way to repair film material, suitable for small cuts of any shape. First, you need to decide which side the patch will be on: inside or outside.

If you make a patch on the outside, it will be noticeable. And if you glue it on the inside, you will have to dismantle part of the stretch ceiling to fix it.

How to fix it with a patch:

1. From the remains of the ceiling material, you need to cut out a part that will cover the hole with a margin of at least a centimeter on each side.
2. The area of the ceiling around the hole and the patch must be degreased with alcohol and allowed to dry.
3. A special glue for stretch ceilings is used for gluing. It is necessary to coat the degreased areas with a not too thick layer.
4. Apply the cut out fragment.
5. Press and smooth it out well.

If possible, it is better not to move the patch from its place so as not to stain the ceiling, because it will be difficult to remove excess glue.

Darn

The above methods are suitable for repairing a sheet of PVC film. To repair a fabric stretch covering, you need to use a different method. You can try to sew up the hole.

Patch the tear along the fibers

In any store with sewing goods, you need to buy a regular nylon thread that matches the color of the ceiling. In order not to make a mistake with the shade, it is useful to take a piece of material to the store or take a photo of it. Then just sew up the hole.

We eliminate oblique cuts

Sew up the tear in the usual way with nylon thread. But after the hole is darned, it is best to go over the ceiling with water-based paint. This will not only mask the hole, but also refresh the decor.

What to do if the hole is large?

All these methods are suitable only if the hole does not exceed 15 centimeters in size. Otherwise, the canvas must be completely replaced. In this case, you cannot do without replacing it with the help of a professional craftsman who will install a new stretch ceiling.
