Where and how is it best to place them?
First of all, you need to understand where to put the plants – their size and quantity depend on this.
- The best option is if there is a source of sunlight in the bathroom (a window). Then the plants are placed directly on the windowsill or on a flat surface opposite it.
- If there is no window in the bathroom, then live flowers are placed on horizontal surfaces, avoiding direct proximity to water. That is, placing green friends next to the sink or on the bathtub, where water will constantly fall on the leaves, is prohibited: even the most moisture-loving species are unlikely to survive in such conditions.
- Also, you should not install indoor plants near radiators, heated towel rails – dry air and too high a temperature in this area will not be corrected even by spraying.

What should be taken into account when choosing lighting?
Many plants in a bathroom with a provided window opening feel great and bloom profusely. In this case, the windows do not even have to be eastern or southern – due to the suitable microclimate, minimal illumination is enough. By the way, a limited amount of ultraviolet light has a beneficial effect on many flowering species: they have a longer flowering period.
For a room without windows, more shade-loving flowers are suitable – but even they need additional illumination. To do this, buy special lamps of the red-blue spectrum in a garden store and keep them on for several hours a day.
The second option is without phytolamps. In this case, the flowerpot is moved from place to place, keeping it either in a well-lit room or in the bathroom. This method is great for flowering plants, it promotes the formation of abundant flowering.

A selection of the best plants
In this section, I will show a list of indoor plants that can be placed not only in a bathroom without a window, but also in well-lit rooms.
See a selection of things that should be in every bathroom.
Chlorophytum
During the Soviet era, this undemanding indoor plant could be found in almost any apartment, hospital or office. Recently, interest in it has waned, but in vain: with its lush narrow leaves, chlorophytum perfectly purifies the air, making it almost sterile.
A semi-ampelous adult seedling with hanging “children” is perfectly suited for placement on the top shelf in the bathroom or on the lid of a cabinet.
Sansevieria
Those who have ever grown pike tail know that it is absolutely unpretentious and lives practically on its own. Sansevieria is a succulent, which means that its phytosynthesis occurs without the participation of sunlight.
However, like all succulents, it does not like overwatering – so it should be moved away from the sink. Mother-in-law’s tongue is not only unpretentious, but also useful: fleshy leaves absorb formaldehyde contained in cleaning products.
Dracaena
If you already have a pot with it and you noticed dry tips of the leaves – feel free to move the dracaena to the bathroom. Dry tips indicate a lack of moisture – to avoid spraying several times a day, it is enough to place the flower in a natural humid environment.
Dracaena Sanderiana is also often used in bathroom design: the plant is popularly called bamboo. The advantage of this species is that it does not need soil: it is enough to place the stems in a vase with water

Orchid
As plants for a bathroom without light, you should choose the following species: phalaenopsis, paphiopedilum. These small tropical inhabitants will decorate the area with a mirror: by the way, thanks to the reflection, the flowers will seem 2 times more.
Orchids feel great where it is warm and humid. And limited daylight hours will only extend the period of decorative flowering. However, to maintain growth, flowers need additional illumination.
Asparagus
A hanging beauty that can decorate the walls. A humid environment is key for it, but sometimes it will be necessary to take it out into a room with a window to ensure the entry of diffused light.
But if you can put the plant in the bathroom near the window, it will delight you with its beauty for a long time. It cleans the air well, but is toxic itself, so it is better to hang it away from children and pets.
Aspidistra
Dense long leaves on legs in the lush mass of an adult flower look impressive. Florists love this variety because it retains its beauty in any conditions: it is not afraid of a lack of daylight, changes in humidity, temperature. Water the soil moderately, not allowing it to dry out or become over-watered.
Nephrolepis
This fern is best chosen for bathrooms with windows or artificially illuminated – it does not like a lack of natural light. But it feels great in damp rooms: moreover, it will not mind additional spraying and regular bathing in the shower.
Zamioculcas
One of the most resistant plants, which is perfect for the bathroom. Zamioculcas grows well in low light and high humidity. But it is still worth periodically placing the pot in a well-lit place without direct sunlight for at least a few days.
In addition to its resistance, it has rich green leaves that will look great in a Scandinavian or eco interior. In addition, it perfectly absorbs harmful substances.
Ivy
For some reason, it is unpopular in the CIS countries and is not usually found in lists of the best options for an apartment. But as a living plant growing in the bathroom, it is irreplaceable: it is suitable for vertical gardening, loves humidity, is not afraid of the dark, and cleans the air perfectly. Requires moderate watering, without drying out the root ball.

Monstera
A fashionable plant with huge leaves is now found in almost all interiors on social networks. However, due to its size, it is only suitable for spacious bathrooms. Caring for the monstera will not take much of your time – it is enough to occasionally water and wipe the large beautiful leaves. The most important requirement is to provide it with enough free space, which can sometimes be problematic.
Care recommendations
Since the bathroom has its own special climate in relation to living rooms, the care will be based on its features.
- Regularly wipe the leaves with a damp cloth – the pores should be open.
- Immediately wash off household chemicals that get on the leaves or soil.
- Additional light to the flowers with phytolamps if there is no window in the bathroom.
- Ventilate the room after SPA procedures to avoid the appearance of fungus and excessive humidity.
- Take the pots out for rehabilitation in time if you notice a deterioration in their condition due to lack of light.
- Carefully monitor watering: water should be supplied as needed so that the roots do not rot.
