Pros and Cons

Glossy kitchens have a lot of advantages:

  • Reflect light: visually increase the space and are suitable for small rooms.
  • Easy to clean: unlike a matte surface, a glossy surface does not have pores that absorb dirt and dust.
  • Provide a large selection of shades: glossy facades are made of film, which can be almost any color.

Kitchen sets also have disadvantages:

  • Get dirty quickly: this is especially true for dark shades, on which streaks and fingerprints are visible.
  • Easily scratched: it is almost impossible to fix the defect.
  • Require a special approach: no abrasive or aggressive products, only soft rags and sponges.

Having assessed the pros and cons of a glossy kitchen, you can go to the choice of color and material.

What is important to know about glossy facade materials?

A glossy surface can be achieved in three ways.

Postforming

The plastic is heated in a special machine and glued to the facade under high pressure: this technology allows you to achieve a dense abutment not only on smooth, but also on milled facades. The film formed on the surface is not afraid of cleaning with chemical detergents, but is susceptible to mechanical damage – scratches.

PVC

A thin material that looks like plastic. However, unlike postforming, the film holds up much worse and can start to peel off when exposed to water. In addition, it often fades and does not tolerate chemicals for maintenance. But a glossy kitchen will cost less.

Paint + varnish

The main advantage over the first methods is the ability to correct defects. But at the same time, you need to be prepared for chips in the varnish from impacts and other impacts. The most expensive option. If you have chosen between glossy and matte, we suggest you decide on the color of the kitchen set.

How does it look in different colors?

We have already mentioned that due to the use of film, plastic or varnish, glossy facades can be of any color. Let’s consider the options.

  • White. Oddly enough, one of the most practical tones that can be used in gloss. White furniture in combination with reflective surfaces perfectly enlarges the room, gives it lightness and airiness. With a wooden tabletop it looks classic, with a black one – contrasting.
  • Beige. Warm range is ideal for rooms with northern windows that lack sunlight. Beige is slightly darker than white, but still light: therefore, it retains all the advantages of the first. The kitchen interior in this color scheme looks very cozy.

  • Gray. A low glossy kitchen set in this cold tone is somewhat reminiscent of steel or chrome and looks great in high-tech or minimalist design styles.
  • Black. The most impractical (relative to glossy kitchen facades), but a very effective way to transform space. Unlike rough surfaces, the reflection of light will not allow you to reduce the space and look heavy. Combined options, when the lower tier is black, and the upper one is white, yellow, green, red, etc., also take place.

In what styles is it better to use?

The design of a glossy kitchen depends primarily on the overall chosen style. It should be noted immediately in which styles glossy facades in the interior will be inappropriate:

  • Classic. In its most direct sense, it requires painted facades with milling and other decorations.
  • Provence. And other rustic styles (country, chalet). Even in the interpretation in an apartment, it is better to give preference to paint or satin film.
  • English. Traditional styles with a hint of history do not imply plastic in the design.

But in modern implementations, glossy kitchens not only have a place to be, but look quite harmonious.

High-tech

Advanced design relies on a combination of plastic, glass and metal. And literally requires a glossy kitchen. Behind the appearance, do not forget about the main principle – functionality and the use of technology. Headsets are built-in, facades are solid and equipped with special fittings that allow you to use them without handles.

Scandinavian

Although the standard is considered to be MDF painted in white or gray, light film or plastic will still do. The main thing is to complement the design of a glossy kitchen with a wooden countertop and suitable, cozy decor.

Loft

Oddly enough, gloss suits the industrial style no worse than other textures. The only nuance is that the facades are chosen dark, and they cannot be called practical. But there is a compromise: the gray range in combination with brick walls, metal and other attributes of the style looks impressive and does not get dirty so much.

Modern

A great alternative to fit gloss into the classics. It involves the use of basic, neutral shades, minimalist design. A combination of dark and light is acceptable.

Care recommendations

In washing There are no difficulties in creating glossy kitchens, the main rule is to avoid using aggressive chemicals, abrasives and hard sponges.

Microfiber works best: it removes dirt, leaves no marks or lint. To get rid of the magnetic effect, wipe the surface with a furniture antistatic. It will also help get rid of small marks that have formed during use.

Tip! It is easier to wipe the kitchen regularly, for example, every time after cooking: this way the facades will always be fresh.

Fairy or another dishwashing detergent will cope with greasy plaque: its foam does not corrode the surface, but degreases it.

Important! Alcohol-containing liquids, such as for washing windows, can spoil the glossy coating and make it cloudy. Therefore, before using, test the new product on an inconspicuous area.
