Instead of Curtains
Let’s start with one of the traditional – but not yet for our country – ways of decorating a window. Our compatriots are accustomed to using tulle as an addition to thick curtains: this combination has remained the most popular for many years. Tulle hides from prying eyes and also adds coziness to the room.
The method in question is brilliant in its simplicity: a light veil will fit perfectly into any modern style. This is a particularly good solution for small spaces with a lack of natural light. Tulle frames the window opening, making it complete, and at the same time does not block the sun’s rays.
With a grab
This method of decorating a window will suit romantic natures – lovers of picturesque folds that are gathered with the help of a decorative holder on one side of the window. The design is asymmetrical and adds dynamics to the interior, while making it more elegant. Convenient magnetic grabs, as well as any fabric or woven devices, will cope with weightless material.
In addition to the aesthetic function, this technique plays a utilitarian role: gathered tulle allows you to freely open and close a window or balcony door without touching the lightweight material. It also removes excess fabric, increasing the amount of penetrating light.
Two colors
A solution for bright personalities who want to emphasize the design of the window opening. This technique works great where the view from the window leaves much to be desired: a colored veil or organza draws attention to itself, making the interior unlike any other.
Translucent fabric in bright muted tones brings a festive atmosphere to the room. Different types of fabric can be combined and hung in 2 layers.
Reserved combinations of classic white tulle with fabric of a natural palette – beige, gray, peach – will look great in any interior. And curtains of the same color as the walls can serve as their continuation, creating an enveloping interior.
Try to ensure that colored curtains harmonize with other textiles, furniture or accent details, as in the second photo. Here, the white fabric serves as a background and tones down the saturation of the shade.
Simple fold
This method is very easy to do: the curtain, gathered closer to the center with the help of pins or ribbon, becomes similar to a glass. On the one hand, this makes the window look solemn and elegant, and on the other hand, it adds airiness to the room, softens the clear lines, and visually changes the proportions of the room.
An interesting solution is to attach the tulle so that a lush flower of fabric is formed at the place of assembly. Experiment with your translucent curtains to see if the material is suitable for this type of decor.
Complex drapery
This design method can make a small window appear larger and give it an unusual look. The tulle is hung in two layers along the entire length of the cornice, then secured with grabs, creating symmetrical folds on two different sides.
If you have two tulle curtains and suitable fasteners to the cornice, you can try this technique right now. The clips or rings should be at the same distance from each other (about 10-15 cm). A regular ribbon or piece of fabric will serve as grabs. When looking at the window opening, guests will think that a designer worked on the design.
Advice! Be sure to consider the style of the interior: modern gravitates towards conciseness and functionality, so the folds in it will look alien. In classic interiors, everything is different, and drapery will add sophistication to the atmosphere.
For all windows
An excellent option for those who own a room with two or more window openings. Attach a curtain rod along the entire length of the wall and hang transparent white tulle, covering the piers. With this technique, you will create the illusion of panoramic windows: the light will be diffused, optically increasing the space.
A separate small curtain on each window simplifies and reduces the cost of the interior. Depending on the desired depth and frequency of folds, the width of the curtain fabric should be 2-3 times wider than the wall.
On top of thick curtains
Such layering is another non-trivial option for decorating a window, because we are used to seeing curtains that are placed on top of tulle, and not vice versa. With the help of a veil, you can easily balance the strict look of curtains, giving the room lightness and airiness.
The translucent material seems to muffle the dark curtains, dissolving them in space, while leaving the ability to block too bright sunlight or create a private atmosphere. In this design, tulle with embroidery, patterns and plant ornaments is appropriate. The background for them should be plain.
Experiment with tulle to create an unusual interior that will attract attention: you don’t have to be an experienced craftsman to do this.
