What types are there?
The design of hanging chairs differs in construction, shape, size and materials. Let’s consider the most popular varieties.
Cocoon
High side walls and an elongated shape allow you to completely immerse yourself inside, hiding from prying eyes. A hanging cocoon chair will help you abstract yourself from what is happening, and in a child’s room it will become the best place to lull your baby to sleep.
Egg
Essentially the same cocoon, but less closed. Egg-shaped chairs are usually elongated upwards and represent half a sphere.
Ball
More round and closed, compared to an egg. Usually made of clear plastic, which makes these hanging chairs an ideal piece of furniture for modern styles.

Drop
Like the two previous ones, it got its name for its external resemblance. A high fabric “hut” with a small hole is an ideal place for privacy that children like.
Hammock
It has an extremely simple design: a piece of fabric is tied to a crossbar and suspended from the ceiling. Due to the lack of a rigid frame, this hanging chair perfectly relaxes the back muscles.
Hammocks are not only made of fabric, but also woven from ropes, like macrame. Usually they have a round, less often – oval shape.

Swing
Not quite a chair, but also has a place to be. A swing in their room will be most appreciated by children, but many adults will also benefit from this option for relaxation.

In addition to the shape, hanging chairs in the interior differ in the installation method:
- Mounted to the ceiling. The most complex and static option. If you are going to install a model for adults, get permission from the management company or other organization: not all houses have ceilings that can support the weight of a person sitting.
- Suspended on a beam. A convenient method for owners of private houses. For installation, a cable is thrown over the ceiling or hooks for metal chains are drilled.
- On a stand. The body is mounted on a stable tripod, usually included in the kit. A spring is attached to the hook, allowing it to swing and feel comfortable. The design is primarily convenient for its mobility – the hanging chair can be easily moved from room to room.
What materials are they made of?
Hanging chairs are made of all kinds of materials: from modern plastic to environmentally friendly rattan or vine. Each has its advantages and disadvantages.
- Vine. The finest weaves look stylish, make the interior warmer and more cozy. There is one drawback: fear of humidity, so it is better not to use it outdoors or in unheated rooms.
- Rattan. Artificial and natural materials are given completely different forms: therefore, on sale you can find models similar to both wicker and bamboo.
- Metal. A synonym for reliability, but not comfort. A hanging chair should definitely be complemented with soft cushions. Used in industrial styles.
- Plastic or acrylic. In combination with chrome elements and a ball shape, it looks ultra-modern. Durable, not afraid of temperature and humidity changes.
- Wood. Due to the ease of processing, wood can be given any desired shape: from traditional to futuristic.
- Fabric. Textiles are used exclusively in hammock chairs. It does not have a rigid base, which can be perceived as both a plus and a minus.
How does it look in the interior of an apartment and in the country?
Can’t decide to buy a hanging chair? Explore its advantages:
- Weightlessness. The feeling of being on a hanging seat is completely different than on a standard sofa.
- A variety of designs. As you may have already noticed, there is a huge range of models, differing in literally every possible parameter.
- Calming effect. Since childhood, rocking for any person means comfort and safety. In adulthood, rest in a hanging chair reduces stress.
- Stylish accent. Hanging chairs in the interiors of the apartment will become the highlight of the design, will attract the attention of all guests.
To understand where exactly to put the purchase, consider the options for different rooms.
Living room
Hanging chairs in the interior of the living room complement the recreation area with a sofa. The swivel seats make it convenient to watch TV or chat with guests.

When decorating spacious halls, a hanging chair can be placed in any suitable place. To save space in a small room, move it to a corner or place it by the window – then you can admire the views from the transparent seat.
Bedroom
The statement that the main piece of furniture for relaxation in the bedroom is the bed is absolutely wrong. You also want to spend daytime here in comfort, so hanging chairs in the bedroom interior are a great option for organizing a cozy corner.
Place a coffee table nearby so that you have a place to put a cup of tea or a glass of wine during moments of rest.
Children’s room
A small child does not need durable models that can withstand a lot of weight. But the hanging chair should be held as firmly as possible, because children most often use the structures for games, swinging and jumping in them. For this reason, chairs are suitable only for ceiling mounting.
Safety is also affected by the material used for manufacturing. Suitable models for small children are fabric. In the form of a drop or a hammock. If you want a frame, choose a nice rattan or rounded plastic without sharp corners.
In a teenager’s room, use hanging or floor models, the main thing is to take into account the load in kg – children’s models for a high school student will no longer withstand. Consider this nuance when buying a chair “for growth”: take a maximum endurance reserve of 10-20 kg.
Balcony
A hanging rattan chair looks best in the interior of a balcony. Complete it with cozy pillows of a suitable color, place live plants on the shelves, lay a carpet on the floor – these simple techniques will make the loggia stylish and cozy.

If the balcony is not insulated and the seat is needed here only in summer, choose models on rigid stands. At the end of the season, they are brought into the house and placed in the living room.
Dacha
In a country house or in the garden, chairs on chains are used in three locations:
- Inside the house. The choice of locations is huge: an attic, study, dining room or summer kitchen is added to a standard living room, bedroom or children’s room. Often, the attic is used as a space for relaxation or play, where a hanging chair is simply necessary.
- On the terrace. If there is no space in the house, look for a free area next to it. Usually, there is an open paved area in front of the entrance or in the backyard, where a suspended structure is installed. This can be done on a canopy, or take a floor model.
- On the site. Fortunately, open areas do not limit the choice of models by size and you can choose the most comfortable cocoon for yourself! There is no ceiling in the garden, so chairs are placed exclusively on supports. But they can be moved from place to place, putting them in the barbecue area, in the sun by the gazebo, or in the shade under the trees.
For outdoor use, choose models that will not deteriorate due to changes in temperature, humidity, or fade in the sun. If in doubt, check with the manufacturer to see if the furniture is suitable for outdoor use.

And one last piece of advice: don’t limit yourself to one chair! Buy two or even three to avoid fighting over the right to sit on this original piece of furniture.
