Types of chairs

Types of chairs depend primarily on the criterion being compared.

Transformation

A standard chair does not change shape in the interior. Transforming chairs easily turn into comfortable loungers or even beds. Recliners are available with a convenient footrest that extends using a mechanical or electric drive. The backrest also reclines, allowing you to take a comfortable reclining position.

Design

A classic chair is large, soft, with comfortable armrests. But there are also compact chairs suitable for a dining room. There are also rocking chairs on a rigid frame, complemented by removable cushions.

Recently, frameless furniture has been gaining popularity: it resembles ordinary furniture in shape, but inside, instead of a rigid frame, there is elastic soft filler. The absence of hard wooden parts and sharp corners makes it an ideal choice for a child’s room.

Unusual shapes include beanbag chairs, hanging models, swivel chairs and chairs on wheels.

Purpose

Models for the living room and kitchen will differ: something large and cozy is placed in the hall, and something small and tall is placed in the kitchen. There are also chairs for work – simple or ergonomic, gaming, children’s. Outdoor furniture, which is used in summer cottages and plots, deserves special attention.

Recommendations for selection

When choosing a chair for the interior of your apartment or house, pay attention to 3 important parameters.

Upholstery

The material of the outer cover is selected from the list of furniture fabrics:

  • Matting. Textured, mostly neutral or pastel shades.
  • Velour. Pleasant to the touch, fleecy, large selection of colors.
  • Flock. Tactile, unlike velour, the pile is not part of the weave, but is simply glued to the base.
  • Chenille. Dense fabric with a small pile.
  • Jacquard. Somewhat reminiscent of tapestry: textured and durable.
  • Leather. Durable, can be uncomfortable to sit in the summer heat.
  • Suede. Practical and more pleasant replacement for leather.

The choice of fabric is also influenced by the place where the furniture will stand. Leather, for example, is more appropriate in offices and strict living rooms. Children really like velour. Rogozhka is universal and is suitable for both the living room and the kitchen.

For kitchens and children’s rooms, choose Easy Clean upholstery. These are fabrics impregnated with a special dirt-repellent composition, thanks to which dirt can be washed off the furniture with clean water.

Size

Volume ones are used for comfortable relaxation in the living room, but they do not suit every style. For example, a leather recliner with plump shapes will be inappropriate in a minimalist modern interior. As a replacement, consider living room chairs of simple shapes with low backs. For the kitchen, it is better to choose a high back, the presence of legs is required – this way the furniture seems more compact.

Do not forget about proportionality with the room: the smaller it is, the simpler and more compact the model should be.

Combination

Armchairs in interiors should first of all match the surrounding environment. The first option is to choose a design that repeats the sofa completely or partially. For example, chester to chester. Or velour upholstery to velour.

The second option is more complicated – to use the chair as an accent. For these purposes, choose bright chairs that will stand out in the interior. For example, yellow furniture in a light room.

Color scheme

Since we touched on the topic of color, let’s talk about it separately. Stores sell models of different shades: from neutral to colored – pastel, deep and even acidic.

The choice should first of all be based on the interior of the room. If you want to focus on decor rather than furniture, choose basic shades: gray, beige, white, black. To emphasize the chair, choose contrasting colors: they can be either colored or monochrome, the main thing is that they differ from the surrounding details.

The second aspect that influences the choice of color is the functional purpose of the space. For children’s rooms, in most cases, a bright palette is chosen – and the upholstery is not necessarily monochromatic, options with prints are acceptable.

If you are organizing a recreation area with an armchair in the bedroom, choose a calm range that promotes relaxation: gray, beige, pastel green or blue. In the office, restrained dark tones are preferable – brown, graphite, indigo, cherry, malachite. The color of the furniture in the living room can be neutral and bright.

How does it look in different styles?

Whatever direction you choose for your home, there will definitely be a chair for it!

  • Minimalism. Simple shapes, clear lines, minimum decor, neutral upholstery.
  • High-tech. The design often has a chrome metal frame, the upholstery is often leather.
  • English. 2 options: a strict chester or a more decorative model with wooden carved armrests and patterns on the back.
  • Provence. The main differences are graceful legs, carriage coupler, pastel plain fabrics or floral patterns.

  • Modern. Smooth lines, slightly futuristic design: the back often resembles a cocoon or an egg.
  • Classic. Always expensively decorated: capitonné on the back, wooden patterns, low beautiful legs. Jacquard with ornaments is usually used for upholstery.
  • Scandinavian. Adherents of the style often use original models with high “hugging” backs.

No matter what room you go into, you will find a place for a cozy seat! An armchair in the living room interior is a classic. One bright one in addition to the sofa or two identical ones – depends on the size of the hall and your personal preferences.

Advice! If friends often stay overnight, choose models with a sleeping place.

In the hallway, the model should be compact – it is especially convenient here there is no need, because the furniture will be used for a short time: to take off or put on shoes.

In a child’s room, this piece of furniture is necessary from birth to adulthood: first, the mother will rock the baby on it (a rocking chair is suitable for this), then read him fairy tales, and then the child himself will sit while reading or watching cartoons.

When organizing a recreation area in the bedroom, add a comfortable ottoman and a coffee table to a small chair, on which you can put a book or a cup of tea.

Options for the kitchen are narrow and high: often the design does not provide armrests, so it looks more like a chair.
