What are the advantages and disadvantages?
- The main advantage of IKEA curtains is the range! The site has more than 120 curtain options, about 20 blinds (including roller and Roman blinds).
- The second advantage is the various options for fastening. Depending on the curtain tape, the fabric is attached directly to the curtain, eyelets, or hooks.
- The third plus is environmental friendliness. IKEA uses renewable, responsibly sourced, recyclable or biodegradable materials (cotton, viscose, cellulose, etc.) to make most of its models.
Another advantage is the length of the fabric is 300 cm. Buy adhesive tape SI with the curtains, cut the length to match the height of the walls of your home and iron – no need to hem anything!

The disadvantages are quite relative, but we can’t help but mention them:
- Reserved design. For a modern interior, this is a plus, but adherents of the classics will not find the desired lambrequins, folds, conchiglie, fringe and other decorations in IKEA.
- The width of the canvas is 145 cm. If the room is wider than 2.8 m and you plan to keep the curtains closed, for an aesthetic appearance you will have to hang 1-2 more curtains.
Types of curtains and fabrics
The configuration of different models varies. Fabric curtains are supplied separately (1 or 2 curtains are written on the packaging). They already have a curtain tape or rings, but for some you will have to buy hooks (RIKTIG, SIRLIG, VIDGA). Curtain rods, strings, and rails are also sold at IKEA. The most popular are REKKA, IRYA, VIDGA.
Blinds, Roman, and roller models are supplied with fasteners, handles, and other necessary elements for the structure to work.
Ikea curtains in the interior can be in 5 options:
- Tulle. Light window decor, used more as a decoration, lets in light and noise. There are plain ones (LILLE), with a geometric pattern (GERTRUD, IRMALIE, HILDRAN), lace ones (ALVINE SPETS, ROSENMALVA), with floral embroidery (LILLEGARD, ROTFIBLA).
- Curtains. From the assortment you can choose blackouts for the bedroom (MAIGULL, VILBORG, BIRTNA), protective textiles from the sun for the living room (REVLUMMER, ANNALUISA), shortened curtains for the kitchen (ROTFIBLA, ASKARIA, HILDAMAYA), models with an original pattern for the nursery (CARLOTTE, IRMELLIN, FJELLMÄTARE).
- Blinds. Made of polyester, they perfectly protect the space from bright light, allowing you to watch TV or work on the computer. Options: SCHOTTIS, HOPPVALS.
- Roman blinds. There is only one model – RINGBLUMMA. It comes in different colors and sizes, fits most standard windows.
- Roller blinds. Unlike the previous ones, there is a larger choice. There are both plain (FRIDANCE, TRETUR) and with a pattern (LISELOTT). BUSKTOFFEL resemble bamboo blinds, but are made of paper and polyester.
GuNRID curtains deserve special mention: thanks to their mineral base, they purify the air in the room. Suitable for living rooms, children’s rooms, bedrooms.

Design recommendations
When buying, consider the main factor: length. 300 cm IKEA curtains are easy to cut to the desired size. The standard is considered to be an option 0.5-1.5 cm shorter than the height of the walls. This way, the curtains won’t collect dust on the floor and will be easy to move.
Long ones that lie on the floor in beautiful folds are suitable only for bedrooms: but in this case, the curtains will have to be washed more often.
If there is a desk or tabletop on the windowsill, cut the fabric 1 cm above the windowsill so that nothing interferes with pulling the curtains.
Short curtains for the kitchen look more harmonious when located 12-15 cm below the windowsill.
