Necessary measurements

Depending on whether you are going to mount roller blinds on plastic windows or on a wall, the width and height measurements are taken differently.

Installing roller blinds on plastic windows

There are also variations within this method: roller blinds are attached directly to the sashes or frame of a plastic window. In the first case, it is recommended to measure the height and width of the sash itself, this will allow you to understand the maximum dimensions of the product.

Advice! If you need to hang a roller blind on a blind sash, the measurements should correspond to the dimensions in the closed position of the window.

Is the structure supposed to be placed across the entire width of the frame between the side walls – slopes? Measure the height and width of the entire opening.

Important! For a regularly opening window, it is preferable to install narrow roller blinds on each sash separately. This way, the fabric will not interfere with the opening of the transom, and the fabric itself will not catch on the handles and hinges when moving the mechanism up and down.

Fastening the system to the wall

The curtain should be 10-15 centimeters wider than the window opening on each side so that its free edges “lie” on the adjoining walls. Any height, but it makes no sense to take below the window sill.

To choose the right model yourself, you need to distinguish between 2 terms: curtain width and fabric width. The width of the curtain is usually indicated taking into account the brackets, the fabric – excluding. If you buy a roller model with a fabric width that is just right for the width of the opening, the brackets simply won’t fit and you won’t be able to install the structure.

Window mounting options

Despite the possibility of mounting to the wall, roller blinds are most often mounted directly on plastic windows. They can be fixed with clips, screws or tape.

Mounting with clips

The main advantage of this method is speed and no need for additional tools. Disadvantage – suitable only for opening window sashes.

You will need a roller blind with a full package of fittings for mounting, including brackets, the clips themselves, fishing line, chain.

Let’s start installing:

  1. Assemble the fittings, focusing on the instructions for the roller blind. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s advice, since a correctly assembled box is 90% of success.
  2. Adjust the position of the axis with the adjustment element – it is better to install it from the slope side. If necessary, swap the axles by simply turning the shaft over.
  3. Open the window, place the clips on the end of the sash, adjust the position, and tighten the clips.
  4. Insert the weight and plugs with the guide line into the lower edge of the blind.
  5. Fix the line from below with special clips with ties.
  6. Pass the chain through a special snail with the base, connect the ends together (closing the chain). Glue the base to the frame with double-sided tape so that the blind moves freely along the guide.
  7. Check the functionality. Done!

Although the detailed description looks complicated, attaching a roller blind to clips is as easy as pie.

Installation with double-sided tape

Double-sided tape has an undeniable advantage: even a child can handle this installation. But there is also a drawback: roller blinds are quite heavy, and the adhesive tape is not always strong enough, and the structure can fall off at any time. If the window sill is empty, nothing terrible (except for the crash) will happen, but if a cat likes to sleep on the window or there is equipment or dishes, the fall of the roller blind can lead to serious consequences.

Therefore, it is more reliable to install on clips or screws.

However, using double-sided tape is also possible. For this, it is advisable to purchase a roller blind immediately with adhesive tape: you will only have to treat the plastic with alcohol or degreaser, remove the protection, evenly apply the cornice to the window and press. Installation is complete!

If you already have a roller blind, it had regular fasteners, and now you need to install it without drilling, purchase adhesive tape separately. For example, Moment Montazh or Skotch mounting tape, UHU. Then do the same thing: degrease both surfaces, let dry, first attach the tape to the curtain mechanism, then remove the protective film and press it to the frame.

How to hang it with screws?

If drilling holes doesn’t bother you, it’s best to attach the roller blind to the window using screws – this type of fastening is the strongest possible. You can use a model with any type of holders as a basis, and screws can be screwed into both tilt and fixed windows.

For quick installation using screws, you will need:

  • pencil;
  • level;
  • double-sided tape;
  • screwdriver;
  • drill;
  • suitable screws.

Instructions:

  1. Assemble the fittings step by step (the blind is installed assembled (see video).
  2. Mark the top edge using a level and pencil.
  3. Glue double-sided tape to each holder.
  4. Attach the blind to the window along the marked line.
  5. Pull the roller blind itself out of the holders.
  6. Drill mini holes, screw in the screws.
  7. Insert the roller blind.

Installing further fittings (guides, chain) is no different from mounting on clips.

Have you purchased a roller blind with clips, but need to install it on a blind frame?

How to mount it on the wall?

Installing it over the window opening is no more difficult than mounting roller blinds on screws to the window. True, instead of a screwdriver and screws, you will need a hammer drill and dowels.

  1. Assembling the roller blind.
  2. Measure the width together with the fasteners.
  3. Find the center of the window, from the center in both directions put aside 0.5 of the width of the blind + 2-4 mm (so that the roller blind itself can be inserted between the holders), mark.
  4. Use a hammer drill to make holes for the dowels, screw on the brackets.
  5. Insert the blind, check the functionality of the controls. Done!

Special cases

Roller blind models differ from each other not only in color or material (fabric, non-woven), but also in design. There are also differences in windows – what to do if your case is non-standard?

What to do if roller blinds have guides?

We have already described in detail decorative models with guides in the section “Mounting on clips”. Small narrow curtains installed directly to the shutter often have lines along which they move, as if on rails. Guides provide a tighter fit, do not allow the curtains to sag when it is necessary to open for ventilation.

There is nothing complicated in the installation of such a design – a tensioner is fixed at the bottom, a line is inserted into it and tightened. The main thing is not to forget to thread all the necessary fittings into the line before this.

Important! Tensioners are installed on opening windows using clips. For stationary ones, screw them on with screws.

What to do with sliding windows?

There are 2 options for mounting on sliding double-glazed windows (these are often installed on balconies and loggias):

  1. Install in any way only on the “outer” frames that do not go under the others.
  2. Mount to the wall above the window or to the ceiling in any necessary place.

Features for day-night roller blinds

Installing day-night blinds is no different from any other, with one exception: the mechanism must be positioned as evenly as possible, otherwise the fabric may jam. Therefore, it is essential to use a level when installing them.

To summarize: when planning the installation of roller blinds, be sure to take all the necessary measurements before purchasing and select the most suitable mounting option.
