Order

The key element of a comfortable and attractive kitchen environment is order. If the countertop and windowsill are cluttered with household appliances, the apron is overloaded with devices hanging on rails, and open shelves are filled with dishes, the room looks cluttered and does not make you want to spend a long time in it.

Try to unload the kitchen by getting rid of unnecessary items and at the same time simplifying your cleaning. Use the internal reserves of cabinets and review the organization of storage.

A good color scheme

It is difficult to call a kitchen cozy if flashy colors prevail in the decoration and decor – an overly bright range quickly tires. Another reason to visit the kitchen less often is the inconsistency and disharmony of shades, as well as the motley design of the walls.

A calm color palette and well-thought-out combinations will become the basis for creating a friendly and comfortable atmosphere. Often, this does not even require a full-fledged renovation: repainting the furniture and wallpaper, as well as transforming the apron will be much cheaper.

If you think that an interior in pastel colors is lifeless, add bright accents in the form of curtains, tablecloths or pillows.

Less shine

If the kitchen set has glossy facades, and the legs of the table and chairs are made of chromed metal, the room does not look homey and cozy. Matte surfaces are not only more practical, but also more comfortable for the eye, as they do not give glare. Gloss itself is good, as it optically enlarges the kitchen, but without matte and wooden elements it looks too strict.

Thanks to countertops, chairs and shelves made of wood, the atmosphere becomes warmer and more visually pleasant. Antiques inherited, wicker baskets, and rugs made of natural fabrics add coziness.

Window decor

For a modest-sized kitchen, the main principle of window decoration applies – the more laconic the curtains, the better. You shouldn’t hang tulle and organza with lambrequins and waves – such curtains attract unnecessary attention and don’t fit into any style.

Buy plain curtains or choose an unobtrusive pattern, complement with simple tulle if you want to hide from prying eyes.

Roller blinds are suitable for those who want to expand the space. They do not block the penetration of natural light, and as we know, the brighter the kitchen is in the morning, the cozier it looks.

Wall decoration

The kitchen looks more spacious if it is not overloaded with decor, but an empty wall above the dining table does not add coziness. The best option is a large-format painting, a landscape that visually deepens the space.

Avoid replicated images (landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, portraits of celebrities, deer in Scandinavian style).

To add exclusivity to the atmosphere, hang your own photo or drawing, even if abstract, above the table. By the way, this will be a great reason for an interesting conversation with guests.

Tablecloth

Who said that elegant tablecloths are only for holidays? A water-repellent product that looks like ordinary fabric allows you to enjoy beauty and convenience every day. The tablecloth not only decorates the kitchen, but also protects the countertop from minor damage. New “clothes” for the table will easily transform the entire interior.

If you want the decor to be not only cozy, but also more expensive, we do not recommend using oilcloth. For holidays and special occasions, it is better to lay a tablecloth made of linen or cotton.

Transforming a refrigerator

Owners of small kitchens consider this electrical appliance too bulky, so they hide it in niches, build it into a set, or choose compact models. If you don’t have such opportunities, decorate your refrigerator, making it the highlight of your interior.

Houseplants

Indoor flowers decorate any interior, and the kitchen is a suitable place for unpretentious plants. Plants add volume to a room and visually enlarge the space a little.

We do not recommend placing large flowers in a cramped kitchen: give preference to medium-sized specimens, as well as vines – it is easy to find a place for them on upper cabinets, a refrigerator or in wicker hanging planters.

Beauty can easily be combined with benefit by planting salad greens in ceramic pots.

Pillows

Soft pillows give a feeling of coziness, as they are associated with comfort and relaxation. If there is a bench or corner in the kitchen, try to decorate the seat with small decorative pillows. Choose contrasting pillowcases to make the decor more expressive and also to simplify the care of the products.

If you use chairs, put special cushions on them, bought in a store or sewn by yourself.

Lighting
