A do-it-yourself pouf in the shape of a cube can be placed in the living room or children’s room.
The photo shows a bright opening chipboard pouf, which serves as a seat and a place to store various small items.
Materials and tools
For work we need:
- Chipboard sheet.
- Wooden bars (4 pieces) 4x4x37 cm.
- Piano hinge.
- Furniture swivel castors.
- Thick foam rubber 40x40x10 cm.
- Synthetic padding 45×160 cm.
- Strong fabric material for upholstery of the base 55×165 cm.
- Material for the lid 65×65 cm.
- Electric jigsaw.
- Screwdriver.
- Furniture stapler.
- Self-tapping screws.
- Universal and wood glue.
Instructions
Let’s get to work:
- Saw out the blanks according to the following dimensions: front and back walls 40×37 cm, two side walls 37×37 cm, bottom of the base 40×40 cm. Assemble the cube using 4×4 cm bars with glue.
- When the glue dries, additionally reinforce the bars with self-tapping screws. This will make the base stronger. We fix the lower part using the same method.
-
We wrap the side walls with padding polyester, securing them with a stapler. We attach the upholstery fabric to one of the corners with an overlap, turning the cut inward and leaving allowances of about 2 cm. We bend the allowances inside and to the bottom of the pouf using a stapler.
-
We glue the foam square to the cover blank using glue.
- We wrap the cover with fabric, bending the edges and securing it with a stapler from below.
- Using self-tapping screws, we fix the cover to the wall with a hinge. We attach wheels to the bottom of the finished product. The do-it-yourself pouf is ready!

Cardboard pouf
An unusual, but stylish and budget pouf made from recycled materials is suitable for a summer house, as well as for an informal interior, such as a loft.
The photo shows a pouf, which is easy to make without drawings from ordinary cardboard packaging.
Materials and tools
To create a pouf with your own hands you will need:
- Cardboard boxes.
- Flat pillow.
- 6 m of strong tape about 40 cm wide.
- 6 connecting rings.
- Tape measure.
- Cutter.
- Scissors.
- Thread and needle.
Instructions
Let’s start making:
- Based on the area of the pillow, we determine the dimensions of the base (for example, 40×40 cm).
- Fold all the boxes until you get a base of the desired height. You can use a cutter to help yourself, pressing the cardboard along the fold line, but not cutting.
- Cut the tape into 3 equal parts. Take one strip, thread 2 rings through, sew up the edge.
- Do the same with the other two strips.
- Thread 2 belts parallel to each other under the cardboard pieces laid on top of each other. Pull the structure together with belts and secure them on the side. Secure the third belt on the narrow side as well. Put a pillow on top. The eco-friendly pouf is ready!
How to sew a soft round pouf?
The original patchwork pouf will add even more warmth and comfort to your home. It is made from scraps of fabric that everyone has.
The photo shows a patchwork pouf made with your own hands.
Supplies
To sew such a pouf, you will need:
- Scraps of multi-colored fabrics.
- Fabric for the back of the pouf.
- Rope.
- Filler.
- Button.
- Pins
- Scissors
- Ruler and pencil.
- Sewing machine.
Step-by-step guide
Let’s get started:
- Cut out identical rectangles measuring 5×30 cm.
- Divide the rectangles into triangles: draw a line diagonally from one corner to the other and cut.
- Lay out the resulting triangles, alternating them by color and pattern. Sew on the machine until you get a circle of patches.
- Cut out a circle of the same size from a single piece of fabric – this will be the back of the pouf. We hide the rope inside the pillowcase, fix it with pins and connect the fabric on the machine as close to the rope as possible.
- Leave a small opening to turn the workpiece inside out.
-
Sew the edges of the rope and hide them with a blind stitch.
- We tightly stuff the pouf with filler and fix a decorative button in the middle, stitching it through.

Stylish pouf from old jeans
Sometimes original furniture can be made “out of nothing” and turn several unnecessary things into one useful one.
The photo shows a sturdy pouf made from old jeans, which can be used as a seat, a table or a footstool.
Supplies
You will need the following:
- 25 identical plastic bottles.
- Double-sided tape.
- Remnants of plywood or thick cardboard.
- Foam rubber.
- Old jeans.
- Thread and needle.
- Sewing machine.
Step-by-step guide
Let’s get started to work:
- Wrap the central bottle with tape, attach 5 more containers to it. Wrap with tape again. Using this template, build up the frame of the ottoman.
- Cut out two identical circles from cardboard or plywood according to the diameter of the connected bottles.
- Align the structure and tightly fix the circles to the base with tape.
- Wrap the frame with foam rubber: first the side, then the lid. Sew the foam rubber with threads.
- Sew the cover. To do this, carefully take measurements from the resulting ottoman, transfer them to paper. According to the pattern, cut out the details from denim, leaving 2.5 cm for allowances. Sew them together.
- The round seat can be made using the patchwork technique, so the pouf will look even more interesting. You can secure the material at the bottom in two ways: sew on an elastic band or fix it with a stapler. The decor of the ottoman depends only on your imagination.
