Simple 2-shelf shoe rack

The simplest open design of a shoe rack for the hallway consists of side racks and shelves located between them. Such a piece of furniture can be created from any materials, but it is simpler and cheaper to make it from wood. The design fits well into the interior of corridors and verandas in any style. It can also be supplemented with metal hooks on the wall.

simple shoe rack

To create a shoe rack, you will need the following materials:

  • wooden board (1 cm thick);
  • wooden bars (with a square section of 4 * 4 cm);
  • black paint;
  • stain (any color that is available);
  • transparent acrylic varnish;
  • universal screws 6 * 60 mm.

Stages of making a shoe rack for the hallway with your own hands:

  1. Cut the blanks: 2 boards measuring 90*30 cm, 4 bars 30 cm long and 4 bars 32 cm long. Sand the parts thoroughly.
  2. Paint the bars black and the boards with stain. Dry well and apply a layer of waterproof (acrylic) varnish on top.

    Shoe rack made of a profile pipe

    shoe rack

    An open shoe rack made of a profile pipe looks very original and unusual. It is not easy to make such a piece of furniture at home, but it is possible. To understand the nuances, watch the step-by-step master class on making an open structure, presented in the video.

    The main materials and components of the shoe rack:

    • profile pipes (20 * 20 mm, 10 * 10 mm, 8 * 8 mm, 20 * 10 mm);
    • metal mesh;
    • plywood (2 sheets 4 mm and 8 mm thick);
    • sheet foam rubber (20 mm thick);
    • artificial leather;
    • spray paint for metal;
    • grout (cement grout);
    • M4 screws.

  • plywood (2 sheets 4 mm and 8 mm thick);
  • sheet foam rubber (20 mm thick);
  • artificial leather;
  • spray paint for metal;
  • grout (cement grout);
  • M4 screws.
  • Stages of making a shoe rack:

    1. Create a detailed drawing of the shoe rack in any program or on a piece of paper (whichever is more convenient for you).
    2. Prepare profile pipes with a square cross-section of 20 * 20 mm. Their surface should be clean and shiny without traces of rust, scale, technical oil.
    3. Make markings in accordance with predetermined dimensions. Use a scriber with a hard alloy tip.
    4. Cut out the required number of blanks. Make cuts not along the marked lines, but parallel to them with an offset to the side from the future part (as shown in the photo).
    5. Mark the corners on the corresponding blanks using a marking protractor.
    6. Cut the corners. Make sure that their parameters correspond to the drawing.
    7. Fold the parts of the upper frame of the frame and fasten them with magnetic corners (as in the photo).
    8. Fasten the components of the unit with tack welds. Make sure that the geometry of the structure corresponds to the drawings, and weld it.
    9. Clean the welds with a grinder (with a petal wheel).
    10. Sequentially build up the frame, following the drawings.
    11. Clean the seams with a grinder. Roughly strip with a 6 mm wheel, and finish with a petal wheel.
    12. Weld the holes in the legs. Clean and sand the seams.
    13. Cut and sand the ends of the 10 x 10 mm profile blanks so that they fit easily into the corners of the side frame frames (as shown in the photo).
    14. Cut one of the 2 parts of each crosspiece in the middle so that the resulting parts can be positioned and welded.
    15. Weld the crosspieces to the side frame frames. Clean the seams.

    16. Cut the 8 x 8 cm profile pipes into pieces that will be used to make the shelf frames. Before doing this, it is recommended to measure the dimensions of the frame and make sure that they correspond to the parameters indicated in the drawing.

    17. Assemble the frames, tack and weld them. Then sand them.

    18. Make pins for fastening the shelves from M4 screws with countersunk heads (as in the photo).

    19. Immediately make recesses for the screws on the frames.

    20. Cut the metal mesh into pieces corresponding to the size of the shelves. Weld.

    21. Drill holes in the frames of the lower shelves, with which they will be securely fixed.

    22. Make holes for the pins using a homemade jig (make it in advance). Cut the M4 thread.

    23. Weld all the crosspieces.

    24. Sand the surface of the structure to ensure reliable adhesion of the paint to the metal.

    25. Degrease the surface of the frame. Cover with paint and dry in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions on the packaging.

    26. Prepare the edging elements: saw a rectangular profile pipe 20 * 10 mm lengthwise into corner strips. Cut the parts into 4 parts corresponding to the sides of the frame (2 long and 2 short). Drill holes along the entire length, through which the elements will be attached to the frame.

    27. Place the corners on the upper frame (where you plan to make a decorative coating). Fix with welding clamps and weld through the previously drilled holes.

    28. Clean the surface. Sand hard-to-reach places with a drill with installed carbide cutters.

    29. Saw off a piece of 4 mm thick plywood, the dimensions of which correspond to the dimensions of the frame to be decorated. Sand the surface.

    30. Make side inserts from corner metal strips, place plywood between them.

    31. Prepare the mosaic tiles: cut into strips, the length of which corresponds to the width of the plywood base.

    32. Glue the mosaic on top of the plywood using liquid nails.

    33. When the adhesive base dries, grout the tiles with cement grout. Pay special attention to the seams. After a few minutes, remove excess mixture with a damp sponge, and after it dries completely, wipe it with a dry cloth.

    34. Cover the decorative surface with polyethylene film (fasten it with masking tape) and paint the frame black. After drying, remove the protective coating.

    35. Cut a piece of 8 mm thick plywood, the dimensions of which correspond to the dimensions of the frame intended for fixing the seat.

    36. Cut 2 pieces of foam rubber, the size of which corresponds to the dimensions of the seat.

    37. Cut a piece of artificial leather (for upholstery) with a 10 cm margin on each side.

    38. Apply markings to the material (artificial leather) with a gel stick, according to which sew with a simple stitch. You can make any design.

    39. Assemble the seat: place the imitation leather on the table, then 2 pieces of foam rubber and plywood. Fold the edges of the imitation leather and secure with staples (be especially careful to fold the corners). Place the black fabric on top and also secure with a stapler.

    40. Remove the markings with alcohol.

    41. Drill holes in the frame and secure the seat with screws.

    42. Secure the shelves to the frame. Screw the lower ones to the frame, and install the upper ones on the pins.
