Disguise with decor
This method allows you to distract attention from wall defects and partially cover them. A composition in the form of framed photographs, posters, paintings, and decorative plates will do.
Textiles are also appropriate: carpets, drapery at the head of the bed, large-format macrame. An even more effective solution is to use climbing plants or create a phytowall.
All of the above ideas will not only mask the unevenness, but will also reflect the character of the apartment owner, filling the empty space.
Hide behind cork sheets
This method is suitable for highlighting an accent wall in a room: cork has an interesting texture, is environmentally friendly and budget-friendly. It will perfectly diversify the interior in Scandinavian or eco-style. Does not require special preparation of the walls, and installation is not difficult – you will need a primer and special glue.
Cork panels look great in a child’s room or home office.
Paste over with wallpaper
If the irregularities are small, choose vinyl or non-woven wallpaper: unlike paper, they can be stretched and adjusted directly on the surface. Give preference to canvases with abstraction, asymmetrical plant prints or geometric patterns – but only those that do not require careful fitting.
We also recommend buying embossed wallpaper: dense textured material will easily cope with minor wall defects.
Hide behind liquid wallpaper
This material sold dry or ready-made and applied to the wall with a spatula. Wallpaper has a variety of shades, can be textured in appearance or smooth, silky.
Contains cellulose, minerals and various decorative additives. One of the main advantages is the absence of seams. When applied, smooths out the imperfections of the walls.
Cover with wall panels or clapboard
If you choose volumetric panels, you will not need to level the walls. It is easy to find many interesting solutions on sale with imitation of wood, stone, brick or in the form of textured abstractions.
If the interior style is country or you like eco-friendly materials, it is appropriate to use clapboard painted in any suitable shade.
Another plus of panels and clapboard is additional sound insulation.
“Align” the facade plaster
For most interiors, decorative plaster is considered the most suitable: it cannot be called budget, besides, it is not suitable for leveling.
To hide wall defects, give preference to facade mixtures with a larger grain: after application, the surface becomes relief and rough. It is appropriate in styles where simplicity and texture decorate the interior: country, Provence, Scandinavian, loft.
Emphasis on unevenness
Another way to bring the decor closer to the industrial style is to enhance the effect. Defects can be accentuated with directional light sources.
Concrete walls will fit perfectly into a loft and will serve as an excellent background for furniture that matches the style. Protect the walls with impregnations and glazes to get rid of dust and make the surface pleasant to the touch.
“Brick” walls do not require leveling either, especially if they are made to look old.
These tips are not suitable if the difference in the walls is more than 10 cm – in all other cases, unevenness can be hidden, disguised or distracted from.
