Features of the style
Neoclassicism has the following distinctive features:
- The decor is dominated by graceful lines, smooth shapes flowing into each other, and a light color scheme.
- The design includes details borrowed from the colonial style: arches, moldings, columns.
- The interior is symmetrical, the composition is always logical and predictable.
- Technological elements fit harmoniously into the aristocratic design: a modern TV, air conditioning, and also household appliances if the living room is combined with the kitchen.
Color scheme
Neoclassicism in the interior of the living room in is largely realized through the competent choice of palette. To create a warm atmosphere in the room, designers use muted shades of beige, milky, cream colors. Details of green, scarlet and brown tones are used as accents.
A living room in gray shades with elements of black and indigo looks noble and restrained.

Neoclassicism does not exclude the use of white: in small living rooms it helps to expand the space without depriving the interior of elegance. The advantage of the modern style is that many of the canons of the classics are inappropriate here, and the color palette varies from warm to cold shades.
Materials and finishing
Both natural and synthetic materials are used as materials for decorating walls, floors and ceilings. The main thing is that the interior in the neoclassical style looks expensive and high-quality.
Decorative plaster with a weakly expressed texture is successfully used for walls. Silky wallpaper with an elegant pattern, but without a contrasting pattern, looks great. In the hall you can find panels of noble wood, as well as painted surfaces complemented by moldings.

Expensive wood or stone is used as a flooring in the living room, parquet or high-quality laminate is laid. The stone floor can be replaced with ceramic tiles imitating marble or granite.
The ceiling serves as another decoration of the hall in the neoclassical style. It is decorated in one color. Installation of tension or suspended structures, use of stucco, wide ceiling plinths with volumetric ornament are allowed.
Furniture
Elegant furniture in the living room interior is not devoid of functionality: soft sofas can have both curved and straight shapes. The upholstery is selected from noble fabrics – velvet or velour, or high-quality imitations of them.
Chairs on legs in the neoclassical style are made of natural wood and have high backs. Carriage coupler is often used for upholstery. If the living room is combined with the dining room, soft armchairs are used instead of chairs for the dining area.

Additional pieces of furniture in the neoclassical style include soft poufs, ottomans and coffee tables. Walls or shelves with glass doors are chosen for storing things or displaying collections. The fronts of the cabinets are often decorated with figured lathing. Small round tables made of metal and glass also look great in the living room.
Lighting
Neoclassicism welcomes a large amount of light, expanding the space. The lighting scenario is thought out before the start of the renovation and is implemented quite traditionally: a multi-tiered chandelier or a voluminous lamp with several shades acts as the main source of lighting. Local lighting is usually represented by wall sconces, located symmetrically.
To create a soft, cozy atmosphere in the living room, floor lamps with lampshades that dim the bright light are placed. Elegant lamps are placed on the tables next to the sofa.

Curtains and decor
Looking at photographs of interiors where neoclassicism is recreated, it is easy to notice a common feature: most window openings are decorated with flowing curtains made of expensive fabric. Roman and roller blinds are less common. Complex decorations in the form of lambrequins and layering are inappropriate in a modern style. Textiles are selected from natural noble fabrics: velvet, silk, satin. Curtains are attached to a massive cornice or hidden behind a suspended ceiling.

As accessories that complete the image of the living room, paintings in carved frames, pillows (they can duplicate the color of the curtains or act as bright accents), a carpet, which often becomes the center of the room in the neoclassical style, are suitable. Tables can be decorated with vases with fresh flowers, sculptures, antique clocks.
Living room design ideas
The neoclassical style looks luxurious in spacious apartments and country houses, where the decor is a reflection of the character of its owner. High ceilings and large windows support the neoclassical setting, and the main decoration of the hall in a private house is the fireplace.
It is more difficult to arrange a living room in the modern classic style for owners of simple small apartments. For this, light colors are used in the decoration, and the setting is not overloaded with decor. An electric fireplace or an imitation portal is a wonderful addition.

Unlike the traditional direction, which does not tolerate an abundance of glossy surfaces, neoclassicism, on the contrary, welcomes their use in the interior. A small living room becomes visually more spacious thanks to mirrors that increase the amount of light.
