Features of color application

Orange is an active color, related to warm tones. These properties impose some restrictions on application. Use color with special caution if the bedroom windows face the south. This applies primarily to the bedroom design, in which saturated shades are used over a large area. In this case, there is a risk of excitation of the nervous system, which is undesirable for a room like a bedroom.

However, bright orange in small quantities, for example, in accessories, will add the necessary dose of positivity to the design, without excessive excitement. The color has many soft shades, such as peach, terracotta, apricot and others. They can vary in saturation.

Tip: If light orange is chosen as the main tone in the decoration of the bedroom, also choose orange, but brighter tones, as accents. For example, peach and tangerine go great together: furniture in a juicy tangerine shade will stand out beautifully against the background of light peach walls.

Options for use in the interior

There are two equal approaches to bedroom design: it can be done using orange tones as the main ones, or this color will be present as an accent. Both options look very impressive, which one to prefer depends only on personal taste. Let’s consider various options for using orange as an accent color when decorating a bedroom.

  • Wall. One wall is chosen as an accent wall – usually the wall at the head of the bed. It is painted or covered with wallpaper containing orange as the main color. On the same wall, you can place lamps, paintings or other decorative elements, making sure that their tone is in harmony with the main background.

  • Furniture. Furniture in orange tones looks especially impressive against a white, beige, and gray background. This can be either upholstered furniture for the bedroom, such as armchairs with orange upholstery, or cabinet furniture – wardrobes and shelves painted bright orange can act as decorative accents.

  • Textiles. The easiest way to liven up a boring monotonous bedroom interior is to add orange textile elements to it. These can be curtains that create the effect of a sunny day, bedspreads, blankets, pillows, carpets both on the floor and on the walls, as well as furniture covers – the most budget-friendly way to radically change the environment.

  • Accessories. Table lamps, vases, photo frames and other accessories in orange tones will allow you to change the impression of the bedroom in a matter of minutes, adding lightness and good mood to the design.

Combination with other colors

It is almost impossible to find a bedroom interior made in one color of one shade. Usually they use either combinations of different shades of the same color, or combinations of different colors. Let’s consider various combination options.

  • Shades. It is possible that almost everything in the bedroom is done in orange – from the wall decoration to the bedspread. Depending on the shade, it can look very bright and aggressive or, on the contrary, gentle and calming.

  • White. White goes well with all colors, including any shade of orange. It muffles the brightness of this cheerful tone and slightly “cools” it. The bedroom interior acquires lightness and airiness. Against the white background of the walls, individual orange elements – furniture, curtains, bedspreads – look especially impressive.

  • Gray. Gray is considered cold, paired with orange it will “cool” it, adding calm and measuredness to the riot of colorful fire. Gray is usually used in design as the main color, with orange accents placed against it.

  • Beige. It is considered neutral and is great for softening orange. Unlike white, it does not create a sharp contrast, so this combination looks optimal in the bedroom. The interior is quite calm, but at the same time not devoid of brightness. In the photo, beige tones muffle the brightness of orange, creating a calm atmosphere for relaxation.

  • Brown. The bedroom design in orange tones looks very stylish and respectable in combination with brown shades of wood. In the photo, the brown furniture stands out effectively against the orange background.

  • Black. White is usually added to the orange-black combination – it helps to achieve harmony and avoid gloom in the bedroom. This combination is very popular in modern styles and looks really impressive. The main thing is not to overdo it with the amount of black and choose the right shade of orange.

  • Blue. The design of an orange bedroom with the addition of blue acquires special expressiveness and depth. It is important that the blue is deep and calm enough, too bright shades will create unnecessary contrast and negatively affect psychological comfort. In the photo, the deep blue in the textiles softly contrasts with the warm orange, cooling it.

  • Turquoise. Azure, sky-blue – all possible variations of this shade go great with orange, especially when used in pairs as accents. Without disturbing the calm atmosphere of the bedroom, they bring a joyful note and enliven the interior. The combination of orange and turquoise colors in the interior can be successfully used in many interior styles, in particular, the Italian version of the Mediterranean style, as well as in the marine style.

Tip: Do not combine bright orange with red and yellow tones, as they are all warm and mutually reinforce each other.
