General information

Bathroom renovation is a labor-intensive and dusty process, so it is necessary to prepare for it in advance. You should cover the floor in the apartment with film, since a lot of dirt will appear during the dismantling of old tiles. It is much easier to throw away the film than to wash construction dust and stains from the surfaces.

Electrical wiring and wall preparation

First of all, you should think about the location of sockets and switches. If the wiring in the apartment is old, you need to invite a specialist to replace it. If the bathroom is small, it is worth considering more lamps: in addition to the main lamp, you can use LEDs to illuminate the mirror. Thoughtful lighting will make the room visually more spacious. You should also think about sockets: for a hair dryer and a washing machine.

For a damp room, it is better to choose lamps and sockets with an IP44 protection rating.

Before installing communications, it is necessary to fill the floor and level the walls with plaster using a laser level. If the walls are crooked, it is worth using metal guides. The floor dries for about 3 days, and the drying time of the plaster is calculated using the formula “2 mm layer = 1 day”.

Communications

When installing a shower cabin, it is not necessary to focus on the location of the riser, but it is important to take into account the angle of the sewer pipe. The shower cabin is placed on a special podium made of blocks, communications are hidden behind the wall or in a box.

You can read more about how to disguise pipes in the bathroom here.

When buying a water heated towel rail, it is recommended to choose a product equipped with Mayevsky valves. The device should be located close to the riser.

Finishing and materials

The project used wood-effect porcelain tiles as the flooring: this is the most versatile and practical way to decorate the floor in the bathroom. Wooden texture never goes out of fashion, and ceramic products are environmentally friendly, wear-resistant and not afraid of moisture. The edge under the shower cabin was decorated with white mosaic.

Glazed rectangular tiles, which are easy to care for, were chosen for wall cladding. In addition, the gloss reflects light well, visually increasing the space. Tiles were laid only in wet areas: the walls were painted with washable Dulux paint on top.

A sheet of moisture-resistant plasterboard was used as a ceiling covering.

Furniture and plumbing

The small bathroom began to look larger thanks to the corner shower cabin and plenty of light. A hanging cabinet and a mirrored cabinet for storing small items also work to expand the space.

After installing the furniture, all that remains is to decorate the bathroom: you can see a selection of several interesting options here.
