Clear Nail Polish
The “classic” remedy for removing small scratches on glass is clear nail polish. Before applying the polish, the damaged surface is thoroughly washed and dried. Then the glass is treated with an alcohol cleaner to degrease. After the glass has completely dried, the polish is applied to the scratch and a small area around it.
When the polish has completely dried, it is necessary to remove the excess with a cotton swab dipped in nail polish remover. At the end of the process, the glass surface is polished with a soft cloth.
Please note! It is important that the cloth is soft. Otherwise, it may leave many more scratches than there were before the treatment.
Metal polish
A small scratch can also be removed using a polish for metal surfaces. This method is much simpler, but is used less often, since not everyone has metal polish at home.
To remove a scratch, the damaged area is polished with a soft cloth to which the polish has been previously applied. After several repetitions, the scratch on the glass will become almost or even completely invisible.
Toothpaste
If the scratch is very small (visible in the sun, but not palpable), then you can use a product that you probably have at home – toothpaste.
However, I should note that you need regular white paste, not a gel, it should not contain any additives or active compounds, and the paste itself should not have any special effects.
Before starting work, the damaged surface is cleaned of dirt. Then, to remove the defect, a small amount of paste (about the size of a pea) is applied to a soft cloth. After that, proceed to carefully polishing the damaged area. The procedure is repeated several times until the scratch is no longer noticeable. Between cycles, excess paste is removed with a soft cloth.
Liquid polish for body work
In addition, liquid polish for body work is suitable for removing scratches. The process here is almost the same as in the previous case, with the exception that the polish is applied not only to the rag, but also to the damaged surface.
Note. If you do not have polish for body work, you can replace it with furniture polish.
GOI paste
A favorite military (and not only) means for polishing anything, including glass, is GOI paste. To remove the defect, rub a small amount of paste onto a felt cloth, which is then used to gently rub in the GOI paste.
Please note! If the crack is too deep, some of the GOI paste may get stuck in it. In this case, the scratch will become even more noticeable, as it will turn green. Therefore, this method should be used only for shallow damage.
A mixture of soda and talc
The last product on this list used to remove scratches on glass is a mixture of soda and talc. To prepare it, add soda and talc to a small amount of water to make a thick paste. Then apply the resulting product to a soft cloth and rub into the damaged area. Remove excess mass after polishing.
It is important to note that all of the above methods are designed to remove small, shallow scratches. If, for example, the glass “met” a stone and became covered with a deep “web” of cracks, then you can not even try to remove the damage. The only thing that can help in this case is a complete replacement of the glass.
