Prevention

Getting rid of hair at home is not that easy. My advice is to get an antistatic. It doesn’t matter in what form: spray, detergents, wipes. Only it saves when cleaning, and microfiber wipes clean perfectly, having a similar effect. And, of course, a vacuum cleaner is a good helper for collecting lint on the surface.

Pet shedding is inevitable, but there is much less hair if you take care of your pets. Replace stroking with a hand with a cat comb. There are many options: from a regular brush to a glove that allows you to comb the cat during play. And the dog will have no less hair all over the apartment. But cats still spend more time at home.

Personally, I considered the option of a slicker brush toy. The silicone product is simply attached to the wall or floor, and the animals themselves scratch themselves on it. All that remains is to collect a significant amount of wool in one place, and not throughout the apartment. At the same time, there is nothing extra on the floor – it is attached to the surface of the furniture.

Prevention does not help to get rid of wool completely, but it allows you to significantly reduce the volume. You just need to prepare in advance – wash, comb or contact a professional groomer when your pet sheds. You can also comb it yourself, the main thing is to use good tools.

I was also worried about the fact that my cats themselves lick off a huge amount of wool. And this is harmful to their health. Therefore, I consulted a veterinarian and give pets special drugs as a preventive measure. They help cats shed hair without causing harm to them, otherwise these lumps simply crawl out themselves, tormenting the animals. It is impossible to get rid of shedding at all, this is a natural renewal process for cats.

How to clean the floor and carpets?

Over the years of living together with pets, I have come to understand one thing: prevention is not salvation. But wet cleaning ultimately takes less time.

The floor and carpets in the apartment are a place where cat hair accumulates with geometric progression. Cats roll around and rub themselves, everything rolls into lumps and clings to the pile. A vacuum cleaner does not save, even if you clean every day.

Here the solution is simple – I use a rubber glove. Usually I take a basin of warm water, wet the glove on my hand and just run my palm over the carpet. This is how we clean it from small debris and hairs. There is a small trick to this, but it removes cat hair better than a vacuum cleaner. The main thing is to keep cats away at this time.

An alternative is a dish sponge. It also needs to be moistened, wrung out and gently passed over it. It is worth noting that in addition to such cleaning, it is also necessary to vacuum to “pull out” the hairs stuck in the villi. And only then collect it with a gloved hand.

carpet cleaning

Important! You do not need to rub the carpet with a sponge back and forth, this will begin to spoil the pile, and the debris will remain inside. You need to carefully move in one direction, periodically wetting the sponge with clean water.

You can’t use a mop to clean a carpet, but the floor will easily be washed of hair, also rolling it into lumps. There is also a secret here – hairs stick because of static electricity. Therefore, sometimes even wet cleaning does not help.

In this case, you can take napkins with an antistatic effect, or just microfiber rags. By the way, I stopped using the first ones, because they left streaks. But microfiber is a good helper, collecting hairs.

Manufacturers have also long understood the problem. Now there are special vacuum cleaners for animal hair, including robot vacuum cleaners. Some have special brushes that collect only hairs. With them, cleaning should be tens of times easier.

How to clean furniture?

Carpets and floors are easy to clean surfaces. It is much more difficult with textiles, soft spots attract cats, and all animals in general. If there is a deposit of hair in the apartment, it is on sofas and armchairs.

  • Upholstered furniture should be treated with antistatic spray, and then wiped with paper towels. This way the upholstery will be in order, and the hair will collect on the napkin.
  • Another method is a brush with bristles. In my opinion, it is only for difficult cases, when there is a lot of hair. After all, the bristles can damage the upholstery, leaving snags.
  • Velvet or velor surfaces can be treated with sticky rollers, or using a home method – scotch tape. But leather sofas are easy to clean – use rubber gloves.

In general, it is worth paying attention to where exactly your pet likes to sprawl out, and simply lay a blanket there or put the entire bed. In this case, you will only need to clean one place, and the rest can be done with light damp cleaning.

But hard surfaces can simply be wiped with a damp cloth. Furniture armrests, armchairs, tables and chairs – especially in the dining area – should be wiped every day. To preserve the surfaces, it is worth spraying them with polish after cleaning and wiping them with a dry cloth. This will also get rid of small scratches left by cat claws.

You shouldn’t think that vertical surfaces don’t need cleaning, but there are hairs in the air too. And then they settle almost everywhere in the house. Cleaning should be done at least once a week.

How to remove hairs from bed linen and curtains?

Wool on bed linen or even curtains (especially if your pet likes to lie on the windowsill) deserves separate cleaning. After all, it’s not always possible to wash hairs off long fabric. Sticky rollers will do the trick, but they are a huge expense, especially when it comes to time. Rolling the fabric over and over again is quite a task, take my word for it.

Antistatic is also a lifesaver here, only in this case, conditioner. Add it when washing bed linen and curtains, and the hair won’t stand a chance.

Here’s a piece of advice – be sure to use the laundry drying function, using special balls or a regular dishwasher sponge. By the way, you can replace the balls with tennis balls — their surface is rough, which makes it easier to collect hairs.

It is worth noting that this method is not suitable for cleaning delicate items. With intensive drying with “beating” from balls, it will simply tear. And it will not save from cat hair.

For such fabrics, there are velvet brushes for removing cat hair, effective due to their structure. They reduce static charge, separating hairs from the fabric. They need to be very careful, trying not to leave snags. And when choosing a brush, pay attention to the density of their bristles.

How to clean clothes?

You can remove hair from your home, but what about clothes that your pets have taken a fancy to? It’s hard not to hug your pet at all, but then going out in “fur” is somehow sloppy and unpleasant. And everything constantly sticks to clothes. And it’s not always possible to close the closet or put away washed clothes in time. As soon as you turn away, the cats have already chosen a new place for themselves. I’m sure this has happened to everyone.

You can remove hair from clothes in the same ways as from carpet or furniture – wet a sponge with clean water and gently clean in one direction. But there is a trick – you need to add hair conditioner to the water. It makes the process of removing hairs easier.

lint roller

A lint roller for clothes is a quick way to clean before going out. The rollers collect not only hairs, but also pellets with small debris. Hair is cleaned in the same way, so everyone is familiar with it. Unfortunately, effective Velcro is often disposable. However, they can be replaced with regular tape – stick a strip, tear off and that’s it. Another alternative is a nylon stocking. Stretch it and run it over your clothes, the effect will also be antistatic. A kind of home life hack.

In general, clothes should be washed twice, using fabric softener with antistatic. This will reduce the likelihood of hairs sticking to the fabric again.

I recommend packing things in the closet in special covers. This will not only protect you from restless cats looking for a place to hide, but also save you from dust.

Cats should definitely be combed in the off-season. Then your head will stop hurting from cleaning. And recommendations on how to get rid of hair will help reduce the time spent on wet cleaning. And the animals will be well-groomed and healthy.
