Characteristic features of the Scandinavian style
The Scandinavian style is a trend in interior design that is characterized by natural materials, the predominance of light shades, severity, and simple geometry of lines. The rooms are uncluttered and spacious with a minimum amount of decor. The main fundamental trend is not decor, but a play of contrasts, sensations, and feelings. Zoning, all kinds of partitions, height differences, etc. are appropriate in such a design.
- The main task of doors is to open and close access to the room without attracting attention.
- Most often, doors in the Scandinavian style are devoid of decorative elements and are simply painted in a certain color.
- Initially, only light wood species were used for production, or dark ones were painted in light shades. Nowadays, it is acceptable to manufacture products from veneer, polyvinyl chloride and other artificial analogues.
- Special attention is paid to door frames. They are made as inconspicuous and thin as possible, and the tone is chosen exclusively similar to the door.
- The fittings are simple, without pretentious elements, usually silver, not gold, and matte instead of shiny and bright glossy.
- Door panels often repeat the texture of the walls or floors. This technique is used to minimize their visibility in the room. In exceptional cases, Scandinavian designs are applied to the doors: patterns in the form of snowflakes, zigzags, deer and trees. Also popular are checkered and striped patterns.
Types of doors
There are two types of doors – interior and entrance, let’s consider each of them.
Interior
Doors in the Scandinavian interior are mainly found from light wood species: birch, pine and ash. The natural texture of the log house emphasizes the wealth of the owners and brings elements of coziness and warmth. Also used are PVC panels, veneer, lightweight with honeycomb filling, laminated.
- Sliding doors. They will help to divide a spacious room of a Scandinavian-style apartment or make a wardrobe and niche less noticeable to the eye. They give the room an urban feel, helping to feel the atmosphere of a big city in your own home.
- Swing. They give a lot of light and free space, typical for Scandinavian houses. Double-leaf models are made of solid wood or with matte or smooth glass inserts.

Entrance
Doors are selected to be reliable, durable and safe. The main types for a door leaf facing the street on one side: paneled, solid wood, glued, veneered on a metal base. A natural cut of wood looks the most attractive. At any time, it can be whitened or aged, thereby emphasizing the Scandinavian style and breathing new life into the item.
Door color
The simplicity of creating an interior in the Scandinavian style is in the limited color palette. Doors are usually matched to the color of the already sheathed walls and floor, or wooden, similar to furniture. They are installed to maintain the overall temperature in the house – if all the interior elements are in a warm range, then the shade of the doors should not be cold.
Several rules are taken as a basis: all surfaces are painted in a single tone or combined in two classic combinations: white and black, red and white, white and blue.
White
Classic for the Northern European style. Partitions do not weigh down the space and can be easily combined with any other tone.
Brown
A brown doorway is usually worth choosing to combine it with a wooden furniture set, parquet or laminate flooring. A variety of shades of brown will help make the room special. This includes coffee, dark walnut, mahogany, beige and the shade of freshly brewed coffee.

Black
Black and its close relatives: wenge and blackberry, are inferior to white in versatility. Unlike the airy and weightless light, dark doors add sharpness, severity and elegance to the interior. They look especially impressive if they are decorated with metal fittings: brass or bronze with a matte finish.

Gray
The color is not as “hackneyed” as white, but is also classic for the Scandinavian style. Such doors will go well with the floor, picture frames and furniture of a similar shade. Gray color looks modest, calm and at the same time luxurious and affirmative.
Door design ideas and decor
Transparent double doors with glass on a suspended base look original. If you move one of their leaves, you get a full-fledged opening into the room, as if there were no doors in the room at all. Glass partitions are also a natural material, so characteristic of the Scandinavian trend and will perfectly convey the motifs of snow and ice.
Also, when choosing sliding doors with glass inserts, one of them is decorated with a pattern in the form of animals, trees and other elements characteristic of the Scandinavian style.
Doors of a similar design are also made massive and rough wood, like barn doors. This futuristic solution, reminiscent of the entrance to an old factory, interestingly plays with the Scandinavian style in the interior.

In some cases, the door panels are decorated with wooden details in the same tone as the door leaf itself, with discreet images, or they are aged.
