Bedroom Zoning Ideas

Before combining the bedroom with the nursery, starting to rearrange furniture and begin finishing work, it is necessary to draw up a schematic plan of the room, which will indicate the existing doorways, windows or balcony.

As an alternative to zoning, you can do repairs with redevelopment. If you plan to install a capital partition in the room, which assumes a load on the supporting structures, you need to obtain a special permit, coordination and approval of the project.

You should not allocate zones and delimit a shared bedroom if a small child will live in the parents’ room only for a while. Otherwise, the interior with installed partitions and special wall decoration will have to be changed.

Visual zoning of a combined bedroom

Different finishes are suitable for visually separating a combined adult and children’s room. For example, the walls in the bedroom can be covered with wallpaper that differs in shade, texture or pattern. It is best to choose canvases in a calmer and pastel color scheme. In addition to wall cladding, flooring materials such as parquet or laminate, which are environmentally friendly and easy to clean, will help delimit the space. It would also be appropriate to highlight the children’s corner with a soft carpet.

When zoning with color, two opposite sides are painted in a contrasting color or several shades of the same color are used.

A two-level ceiling system also provides an excellent opportunity to divide the room. A suspended or stretch ceiling in the children’s area is equipped with LED lighting, and the parental sleeping segment is equipped with spotlights. In this way, it is possible to visually divide the room with the help of lighting.

The easiest way is to highlight the baby’s sleeping area with a variety of decorations. The walls near the baby’s crib can be decorated with photographs, stickers, drawings, toys, garlands and other accessories.

Functional separation of a nursery and a bedroom

Since in some apartments it is not always possible to arrange a separate room for a child, then in a combined room they use functional zoning, which allows you to organize a personal corner for everyone.

The main techniques are considered to be the delimitation of space with decorative structures, sliding doors, shelves and arches. Plastic, wooden or plasterboard partitions perfectly isolate the children’s bedroom from the adult one, but at the same time they steal useful space in the room.

A shelving unit is an excellent dividing element. Such a piece of furniture will not prevent natural light from penetrating into every corner of the room. In addition, open shelves will perfectly accommodate a home library, toys, textbooks and decor that will advantageously complement the surrounding interior of the bedroom.

Thanks to zoning with a tall wardrobe, it is possible to create a functional storage system and save square meters in the room. If there is enough space, the structure is equipped with shelves on both sides. A folding bed or a whole furniture complex can be built into the sliding wardrobe.

After zoning the room, the window opening will be located only in one segment, so for good penetration of natural light, the partition is replaced with translucent curtains. In addition to fabric curtains, it is appropriate to use bamboo, plastic blinds or a light mobile screen.

Another unusual solution to divide the bedroom is to construct a small podium for the parental area. The elevation on the floor is equipped with drawers or niches in which large items, children’s toys or bed linen are stored.

Features of furniture arrangement

An adult bed is the most dimensional structure in the bedroom, so space is allocated for it first. In a narrow and elongated rectangular room, the parent’s sleeping place can be placed across one of the long walls. If the room is large enough, the bed is installed diagonally, with the headboard in the corner.

The crib where the newborn baby will sleep is best placed near the parents’ bed, closer to the mother’s sleeping place. If the room is square, the cradle can be placed opposite the parents’ bed. It is not recommended to place a baby cot near heating devices, noisy household appliances and sockets.

It is appropriate to fit a bed for an older child into a free corner opposite the parent’s bed. It is not advisable to place a child’s bed opposite the door. The space next to the window can be furnished with a desk and storage systems in the form of hanging book shelves or a narrow rack for toys, which can also solve the problem of zoning in the room.

Tips for small bedrooms

Design small bedrooms are designed with the utmost care, taking into account every square meter in the room. There are several rules that allow you to furnish a small room and turn it into a cozy place for parents and a child.

First of all, massive and heavy furniture should be replaced with mobile transformable structures, and the child’s crib should be placed near the adult’s sleeping place, without using partitions.

For ceiling and wall decoration, it is advisable to choose materials in light colors, instead of thick curtains on the windows, hang transparent curtains or blinds.

Organization of the children’s area

The choice of furniture and its placement depends entirely on the size of the bedroom and how old the child is. The children’s area for a newborn baby is equipped with a cradle, chest of drawers and changing table, which, if space is limited, can be combined into one item.

When equipping a resting place for an older child, the crib is replaced with a small folding sofa or a chair-bed. For a schoolchild, a loft bed can be installed in the room with an upper tier that serves as a sleeping bed and a lower tier that serves as a desk.

For a young family with two children, a bed with an additional pull-out space or a bunk bed that makes the most efficient use of the available space is suitable.

Arrangement of the parents’ area

The recreation area must be equipped with a bed, bedside tables and storage systems for things. A spacious room can be supplemented with a table, a wall or a TV stand.

The adult half of the room is decorated with paintings, photo wallpaper and other decor, maintained in a calm range. Wall sconces or floor lamps are located near the parents’ bed. Lamps that match the style of the surrounding interior will look good on bedside tables or a chest of drawers.
