Color selection rules

The sink is one of the final details of the kitchen design. This means that its color and material are selected last, when the wall decoration and furniture set have already been determined.

faucet to match the sink

  • Colored sinks are more suitable for modern stylistic trends. Red can be combined with a high-tech brick wall, and yellow – to reflect the bright colors of pop art. But green or blue will be a great addition to Provence.
  • The tone should be matched to the color of the appliances, kitchen fronts or apron.
  • The sink and faucet should match each other in style and color scheme.
  • When choosing, you should also consider the practicality and dirtiness of the color, for example, if you have a dishwasher, you will use the sink for washing dishes less often.

What should the color of the sink match?

  • Countertop. The shade of the sink can be matched to the color of the countertop or a few tones lighter or darker. It can also act as a bright accent, standing out noticeably against the background of the work surface. Think about combining a white surface and a red sink, or a black stone countertop and a contrasting white sink.
  • Kitchen set. White cabinet fronts will harmonize with the snow-white sink coating against the background of a brown or black countertop. Blue fronts and sink will be combined with a white work surface. White and green staggered drawer doors allow you to install both green and light green. It is also worth considering the shades of the dining area.
  • General color scheme of the kitchen. The main rule that most designers use is the concept of three colors. A larger number will already create an atmosphere of clutter and disorder. Determine 3 main shades in a combination of 60:30:10. For example, if the kitchen walls are painted white, choose similar equipment and plumbing accessories, arrange brown fronts and a dining area and, as 10 percent, dilute everything with bright light green textiles. The color of the sink should be in harmony with all the interior details: fabric surfaces, kitchen furniture (facades and countertops), decor, wall, ceiling, and floor finishes.
  • Appliances. Selecting kitchen appliances and a sink in the same color creates a complete, unobtrusive picture. The most common option is a metal or white surface. A light refrigerator, a light faucet, a similar kettle, and a food processor will breathe cleanliness and freshness into the kitchen. A gray metallic tone can create a full-fledged hi-tech, loft, minimalism, or modern style. Although appliances and a sink in blue, plum, or yellow will also create an unusual setting, but choosing the same tone for all components is not an easy task.

Consider practicality

In the case of colored sinks, it is better to choose one where the colorant is added to the very structure of the material. This will ensure that the color will last for many years, it will not be spoiled by grease and dirt deposits, and in case of chips, restoration is possible.

What colors of sinks are popular now?

Products made of quartz sand or marble chips and colorant make it possible to obtain any desired shade, unchanged for at least 30 years of use.

a selection of sinks of various colors

The colors of sinks made of natural stone were created by nature itself: coal-black, gray, beige, bright yellow, green, their combinations and inclusions.

Stainless steel is one of the most popular materials, titanium coating allows you to get in addition to gray-steel also bronze, copper and brass tones.

Ceramic products do not limit the designer’s imagination and are presented in all possible color directions.

Despite the listed variety, traditional shades remain popular: white, gray, metallic. These are universal colors, they are suitable for forming any style and go well with the entire color spectrum.

What new colors have appeared on the market?
