Shadow seams
A shadow seam is an interior detail that is most often used in plasterboard structures. Visually, it looks original and unusual. After all, from the outside it seems as if the wall is floating in the air and is not attached to the floor in any way.
This effect is achieved due to the fact that this type of hidden skirting board has the shape of the letter “G”, and the floor covering goes under the skirting board by at least 3-6 millimeters.
Backlight
Every person has seen LED backlighting on the floor or ceiling in at least one movie or TV program. It goes well with any design and looks great.
The only disadvantage is that the monthly electricity bill will increase (the backlight does not consume much energy, so the increase in the amount will be insignificant). In addition, you can install an LED strip that will react to movements in the room and turn on at that moment.
The backlight can be installed inside the shadow joint or built into special baseboards. Alternatively, you can mount a special neon cord along the transition from the floor to the wall. And if you want to install lighting that will turn on when you move, you also need to connect a motion sensor.
Rope
A cord or rope is a budget similar to a baseboard. The thick designer rope looks very original and unusual. In stores now you can buy any kind of edging cord, which differ in design, thickness, material of manufacture, and so on.
At the same time, to attach the rope to its rightful place, you do not need to call specialists. This interior element is attached with glue. The only task is to glue the rope evenly.
Cork damper
Most often it is used to visually remove the joints between parquet and ceramic tiles, but it is also great for decorating the transition from floor to wall. Unfortunately, stores sell a small number of shades. But due to the special structure of the damper, you can paint it yourself in any desired color.
The advantages include an original appearance, budget and ease of installation. But the cork compensator has one serious drawback. Due to the porous structure, under the influence of high humidity, the material quickly deteriorates and becomes unusable. Therefore, if the house is constantly damp, it is better to opt for another material.
Decorative panels
If other similar skirting boards are small in size and height, then decorative panels are mounted on part of the wall. Therefore, in this case, it is important to carefully consider the combination of design, texture, color, and so on. Fortunately, decorative panels for every taste and color are now sold in stores.
You can even find premium decorative panels with a three-dimensional pattern, although their price is several times higher. The panels are easy to install, just use special glue or screws.
Door trims
Door trims can be used not only for doors, but also instead of skirting boards on the floor. It turns out very original and beautiful. And some models of door trims can be purchased cheaper than skirting boards.
One of the advantages is that when using this decorative element, a smooth transition is maintained near the doors, and the door trim does not protrude as much as the skirting board.
Window glazing beads
This decorative element is most often used for fixing glass. But window glazing beads can also be used instead of a floor skirting board. They are made from different materials: natural wood, MDF or PVC. Thanks to this, everyone can choose glazing beads for their needs and possibilities.
Usually this decorative element is fixed with liquid nails, but you can also use regular mounting glue. Thanks to this, window glazing beads fit tightly to the wall and floor. This means that they can last for several years before requiring replacement.
Ceramic border
Initially, this technology was used in places where the bathtub adjoins the wall to seal the cracks. But then someone suggested using a ceramic border instead of a floor skirting board. As a result, this technology quickly spread throughout Russia and Europe.
Since the ceramic border has an attractive appearance and a number of useful properties: long service life, resistance to almost all external factors and high tightness.
If you are already tired of the classic version of framing the transition of the floor to the wall, then you can use one of the unusual analogues of the baseboard. This way you will get a more original and attractive interior, thereby spending not much more money.
