Florarium

The composition is a container made of glass or plastic, which can have a wide variety of shapes (sphere, trapezoid, polyhedron, etc.). A terrarium is an optimal solution for small apartments, because it is difficult to simultaneously collect many plants in a small area.

Being limited by space, succulents will not grow and will retain their original miniature size.

Look at what beauty you can make from succulents with your own hands, and then proceed to the instructions:

Now I will show you a simple master class on creating a florarium for succulents. First, prepare the necessary tools and materials:

  • several succulents;
  • 11 CD cases;
  • pebbles (by the way, look at examples of using pebbles in the interior);
  • universal soil;
  • coarse sand;
  • masking tape;
  • black electrical tape;
  • heat gun;
  • ruler;
  • marker and stationery knife.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Prepare the walls of the florarium. Disassemble the cases and take only transparent lids. Try to choose solid lids without damage and stickers, so as not to harm the succulents.
  2. Mark the future walls. Prepare a pentagonal template from thick paper and draw on each lid using a marker.
  3. Take a stationery knife and cut out the resulting walls.
  4. Connect the resulting figures using masking tape to make a container. But don’t forget to leave a hole on one side!
  5. After that, take a gun and connect each face from the inside using glue. Wait until it dries completely.
  6. Remove the tape and glue each corner with black electrical tape.
  7. Take small pebbles (if you want, you can replace them with expanded clay) and carefully place them on the bottom of the florarium. Next, pour in soil to make a layer of 3-5 cm.
  8. Gently water so that the soil becomes evenly moist, but do not overfill.
  9. Take the succulents and arrange them inside the container in the order you see your composition. Press them in a little deeper and tamp them down carefully.

    Compositions with clay or ceramic figurines

    With the help of succulents and various figurines, you can create entire fairy-tale worlds. If you have the time and desire, try to mold houses, flowers, mushrooms and other decor from self-hardening clay with your own hands. If not, you can buy all of this in the relevant stores.

    In the video, the blogger shows a master class on creating a New Year’s composition:

    Phytopaintings

    Wall paintings made of succulents are an original and unusual decoration for a room. But it is recommended to create them if you are already familiar with these plants and know the growth characteristics of different species.

    The main rule is not to choose succulents that will quickly grow up.

    To create a phytopainting, you will need a deep frame with a bottom. Young plants are planted in it and covered with a lattice. The composition is put aside for a period of several months to a year, until the succulents intertwine with each other with their root system and grow through the rods. But I will tell you more below, and for now look and get inspired by the examples in the photo.

    Let’s start the master class itself. Prepare the necessary materials and tools:

    • succulents (for a 15×30 cm painting you will need 60 small succulents);
    • 4 bars with a height of about 5-7 cm and the same length (based on the size of the planned phyto-painting);
    • hacksaw;
    • textile or plastic mesh with a cell size of about 1 cm;
    • plywood sheet;
    • wood glue;
    • nails;
    • small staples;

    Step-by-step instructions

    1. Form the frame. Process the bars, cleaning them with sandpaper. Then connect the bars with nails or glue to get a reliable frame. If you don’t have carpentry skills, just buy a frame of the right size.
    2. Attach the mesh to the inside of the frame using staples as shown in the photo below.

    3. Nail a sheet of plywood to the bottom on the opposite side and saw off the excess.
    4. Place the frame with the closed part down and the mesh up. Pour cactus soil through the mesh.

    5. Moisten the soil slightly. Carefully push the ends of the succulent cuttings through the mesh so that they are immersed in the soil.

    6. Place on a flat surface in a cool place. It is important that the room is well lit. Leave it in this position for 1.5 weeks to allow the succulents to take root and begin watering regularly. Just don’t turn it over, it will take about 6-12 weeks for rooting.

    Succulents as an original table decoration

    If you want to surprise your guests using non-standard table setting and natural materials, decorate the table with succulents. You can use wooden cutting boards as a base and place compact succulents in pots on top.

    Due to their small size, the plants will not block the view of people sitting opposite them and interfere with the meal, while creating a cozy and pleasant atmosphere.

    Another interesting video from blogger Olga from the channel “Nashi plants”:

    Succulents in dishes

    Old dishes can serve as a good basis for creating a miniature garden of succulents. Simply fill the containers with suitable soil, plant the plants in them and arrange them anywhere in the apartment the way you like.

    An interesting master class on creating a multi-tiered composition:

    Compositions in pots

    Different types of succulents are beautifully combined in one ceramic, metal or plastic pot. When composing a composition, you need to approach it not only with imagination, but also with knowledge of plant biology: plant in one container those species that grow at approximately the same rate and do not stretch in length.

    Multicolored compositions in glass

    The advantage of succulents is that they can grow in almost any soil. To grow them in a glass transparent container, take care of drainage, which will not allow the roots of the plants to rot. By pouring layers of colored sand on it and planting succulents, you can get very original and bright compositions.

    Original compositions

    Succulents in a tree

    There are two options here. The first is to find a suitable piece of wood oriented horizontally and fill the interior with soil. The second is to make unique stumps from thick tree branches and make round holes in them using a special drill attachment.

    Hanging compositions

    Succulents do not require much space and can grow in almost any container. After planting the plants in a cup or glass, hang them in compositions in any corner of the house that you want to decorate.

    Wall installation

    If you have a lot of succulents, you can organize a whole installation on the wall by planting them in small planters. Fix the pots on a vertical surface, and by combining succulents of different types and colors, you will get an original composition.

    Succulents go well with almost any material: sand, gravel, shells, moss, wood and others. They feel great in limited conditions and tolerate droughts well. Thanks to this, you can make a variety of compositions from them, which will be an excellent decoration for any corner of the apartment.
