Patchwork Bedspread
If you have a lot of unnecessary fabric that was once bed linen, you can turn the material into a patterned bedspread in the patchwork style. Patchwork sewing requires a lot of perseverance, but this activity is relaxing and exciting. By combining multi-colored shapes and stripes, you will get a real work of art.
The pieces sewn together turn into a bedspread thanks to the lining and an additional layer of fabric. Patchwork items fit perfectly into rustic and Mediterranean styles, as well as retro, Scandi and Provence.
Kitchen textiles
A practical option for reusing old bed linen is to create kitchen towels, as well as:
- a mat for drying dishes;
- potholders and hot pads;
- serving napkins.
You don’t need any special skills to create kitchen textiles. All you need is a sewing machine, scissors and accuracy. If you have a small child, cotton scraps can be used as a bib or napkins for dishes.
Chair cushions
You can sew soft seat cushions for chairs or stools with your own hands, using unnecessary sheets or pillowcases. Plain fabric is suitable for a modern interior style, and with a pattern – for a country style. The ideal fabric would be thick linen or cotton.
Holofiber, foam rubber or synthetic padding are suitable as filling – the choice depends on the desired softness. The seat of a chair or stool will serve as a template for future products. Ready-made pillows will increase your comfort and add coziness to your kitchen gatherings.
Decorative pillowcases
You can create a very original pillowcase for a decorative pillow from old sheets. There are many ways to decorate the product:
- sew on an applique;
- create flowers or waves from fabric;
- decorate a plain pillowcase made from a sheet with paint or homemade stamps;
- sew on fabric stripes to create fringe.
Rug
Duvet covers, sheets and pillowcases can be cut into long strips and woven into a rug. Semi-synthetic bed linen, which stretches well, is best suited for this purpose. You can also make a rug from cut ribbons, tying them with knots onto a mesh base.
The product will be bright and unique. A homemade rug will decorate a nursery, bedroom or hallway.
Fabric basket
To sew such a basket, you will need thick fabric, a piece of bed linen, pins and thread. One piece of fabric will become the front part of the product, and the second – the inside. Depending on the size, the finished containers can be used to store dirty laundry, toys, and toilet paper rolls. You can also hide unsightly flower pots with the help of textile baskets.
Sew a handle to the finished product to hang the container on the wall or door: this way you will save space on the floor.
Textile organizer
Another option for rational use of space is a hanging organizer. It is easy to make, having minimal sewing skills. A smart product made from old bed linen will help to tidy up your closet, bathroom or hallway – that is, where a lot of little things often accumulate.
If you want to protect your clothes in your closet from dirt and dust, sew special covers from sheets.
Box decor
Pillowcases and sheets can be used to decorate cardboard boxes. Fabric can easily be used to decorate unsightly brown boxes, thereby providing order and comfort on the shelves. The updated boxes will become a useful storage for underwear, socks and small accessories.
Before throwing away old bed linen, think about whether the fabric can be reused: perhaps you will be able to create an exclusive or useful thing for your home without spending a penny.
