Why should it be closed?
Of course, the washing machine doors should be locked during washing – otherwise, the device simply won’t start. But if there are small children or animals in the house, it is recommended to close the hatch even when the device is turned off.
The warning is written in all the instructions for the machine and reads as follows: “Do not allow children or persons who are unable to assess the degree of danger when using the device to use the device, as this is life-threatening and may cause injury.”
- An open washing machine can be of interest to both children and animals: babies can lock themselves inside or lock a pet.
- Detergents left on the walls or in special compartments are also dangerous: if swallowed, they can cause poisoning.
- A child who plays with the machine without adult supervision can simply break the door by hanging on it.
It is difficult to find an open washing machine in professional interior photographs with designer renovations, but it is worth remembering that this is done only for the sake of the aesthetics of the photo.
Why is it better not to close it?
After washing, moisture remains in the machine: on the walls of the drum, in the trays for powder and conditioner, the rubber cuff of the hatch, as well as in the drain pump and at the bottom of the tank. The water remaining inside serves as a favorable environment for the growth of fungi and mold, which are then difficult to get rid of, and also contributes to the formation of an unpleasant odor.
Over time, the remnants of powder accumulate in the pull-out compartment for detergents – if you do not clean it, a plug may form that will interfere with the intake of detergents during washing.
For better air circulation after washing, you should open both the door and the detergent tray. According to service center technicians, a closed hatch allows water vapor to affect the metal parts of the equipment for a long time, bringing their repair closer. Moisture also has a negative effect on the elasticity of the seal, and musty odors remain on the washed laundry.
One of the most common stories shared by Internet users: a washing machine left closed during the vacation of its owners, upon arrival emitted such a pungent odor that to get rid of it, the help of specialists and the replacement of some elements were required.
What to do after washing?
The door of the washing machine must be opened wide after the completion of the washing cycle to evaporate the remaining moisture. The sealing cuff and drum should be wiped at the end of each wash, making sure not to damage the rubber.
Keep the hatch and powder compartment wide open for two hours, and then leave them slightly open by 5 cm. The room in which the device is located must be well ventilated. If there are small children in the house, the door can be opened at night.
Proper attitude to the washing machine can extend its service life and avoid unexpected breakdowns
